SETTING UP
THE PLANE
Ploughing
To set the cutter, slacken off cutter clamping nut W and
operate cutter adjusting nut J until the cutter edge shows
slightly forward of the body skate. Fully tighten cutter
clamping nut W. To set the fence, slacken fence knurled
screws D and use a rule as in diagram 'A' to measure the
required inside distance between cutter and fence. To
control depth of groove or rebate, set depth gauge G by
slackening depth gauge locking screw K. using a rule to
push down on the depth gauge which will remain in position
being held by nylon depth gauge expander L until locking
screw K is tightened down. By removing the depth gauge,
an extra 1 in. (3-2 mm) depth of groove or rebate may be
obtained.
Rebating
Set cutter and depth gauge as for ploughing. Fit a cutter
slightly wider than the rebate required and set the width of
rebate by adjusting the distance between the fence and the
outside edge of the cutter If the rebate roquired is wider than
the widest cutter, first cut a groove away from the face and
remove the surplus with a bench rebato plane.
