Osborne Stanfield
Heat Pads are used to provide a warm lying area for
®
small animals and are particularly important for piglets and other animals
born without good body temperature regulation or hair-coat protection.
Large animals or careless handling can damage power supply
cords and heat pads. Such damage may cause a life-threatening
electric shock hazard and may start a fire if combustible material
is present. Do not permit access by adult animals to the power
cords or heat pads. Do not carry heat pads by their power supply
cords. Do not use heat pads in the presence of combustible
materials. Always disconnect power while washing heat pads. If
damage is detected, remove from service and return to Osborne
Industries for inspection and repair. HEAT PAD REPAIRS BY
QUALIFIED FACTORY PERSONNEL ONLY. CONTACT YOUR
OSBORNE DEALER OR OSBORNE CUSTOMER SERVICE FOR
DETAILS OR TO RETURN HEAT PADS FOR REPAIR.
INSTALLATION:
Osborne Stanfield
Heat Pads must be anchored in a dry, well-drained
®
location using the predrilled holes. Additional anchor holes can be drilled
AROUND THE OUTER MARGIN IN THE PREDIMPLED LOCATORS
ONLY. Drilling holes anywhere else could damage the heater element.
Always install the heat pad so that the power cords are not accessible to
the animals. A conduit such as an Osborne Cord Protector, plastic pipe, or
electrical conduit is recommended. Damage to the cords caused by insuf-
ficient protection is not covered by warranty and may result in hazardous
electric shock.
Never take chances. Always protect the heat pad from adult
animals and anchor it so that it cannot be moved. Protect power
cords from both adult and small animals.
OPERATION:
Osborne Stanfield
Heat Pads do not use an internal thermostat. At full
®
rated input voltage, they operate at a fixed temperature rise above the ambi-
ent air temperature which is often adequate if room temperature is 65-70 °F
(18-21 °C) for piglets and similar small animals. For complete year-round
control of heat pad temperature and best efficiency, control power and tem-
perature with an Osborne Heat Pad Control.
For puppies, calves, lambs and other hair or fur-bearing animals,
always use heat pad temperature controls to establish the best
temperature for each animal. Too much heat may cause injuries
for some animals.
If non-use of the pad is observed, check the following:
a. Is electrical power applied to the pad? Placing the palm of the hand on
the pad for several seconds results in a "warm" feeling if power is ap-
plied.
b. If the heat pad is warm, but animals are not using it, check for drafts
in the area compared to the area where the animals do lay. Change
ventilation to reduce the draft to acceptable levels.
c. If the animals seem restless, lie next to heat pad, but not on it, or use
it only intermittently, it may be too warm. Reduce air temperature or
add controls or reduce setting of controls until animals rest comfortably
again.
Always keep the heat pad clean and dry for longest life and
best performance.

Instructions and Warranty
ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Apply power by connecting the power cord to a 110-120 VAC outlet or
into outlets controlled by an Osborne Heat Pad Control.
Connect heat pads only to power sources which are protected
by Ground Fault Interrupter (GFI) circuits. Failure to use GFI
protected circuits exposes animals and user to dangerous
electrical shock hazard. GFI protection can be installed by a
licensed electrician.
Do not allow bedding, manure, or debris to cover heat pad. Do not
cover heat pad with any flammable covering. Any covering causes
the heat pad to become too warm for the animal, is a fuel source
for fire, and reduces the life expectancy for the heat pad. Keep it
clean and dry.
Heat pads do not usually raise the air temperature measurably except
in confined spaces. Also the surface does not feel extremely warm to the
touch. Heat pads are a thermal barrier and prevent heat loss from the
animal. This helps maintain a constant body temperature, especially dur-
ing sleep. When power is first applied, some heat loss to the floor occurs,
but decreases as the floor is warmed. Heat pads operate more efficiently
(lower control setting) on floors that are poor thermal conductors, i.e. plastic
or wood compared to steel or concrete.
CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS:
Always disconnect electricity before washing or pressure washing.
Unnoticed damage could cause electrical shock hazard.
Heat pads may be safely high-pressure washed, brushed, scraped and
immersed in water or disinfectant. Thoroughly dry heat pads after washing.
Maintain dry operating conditions. Stanfield
but continuous exposure to moisture or urine leads to early failure. Clean
and polish the electrical contacts (spades) on the power cord plug if they
corrode for good electrical contact.
Osborne Industries, Inc., warrants its heat pads and controls to be
free of defects in materials and workmanship under normal use for
a period of ONE YEAR from the date of purchase. Power cords and
sensor extensions are not included in this warranty. Any heat pad or
control which our examination reveals to be defective will be repaired or
replaced at our option without charge. Alleged defective products must
be returned in a clean condition to the retailer from whom the product
was purchased or to any Authorized Osborne Dealer. If a warranty
registration card is not returned when purchased, returned products
must include a copy of the original sales slip showing purchase date
and serial number (imbedded in the back surface of heat pad). Owner's
name and address must be clearly marked on the product. The serial
number or date of shipment from the factory is used to determine
warranty period if products are not registered or accompanied by proof
of purchase. Osborne Industries, Inc., is not liable for loss or damage
resulting from alteration, misuse, or abuse of the products.
warranty is limited to repair or replacement of the product and
excludes consequential and special damages.
