Air cleaner
Filter inspection

Air cleaner filter may be air cleaned or
replaced, depending on its condition.
Unless it is very dirty, merely shake it to
remove foreign particles. Each time this
filter is inspected, wipe the inside of the
air cleaner housing and cover with a
damp cloth. If the vehicle is operated in
extremely dusty or sandy areas, clean or
replace air cleaner filter more often than
at the usual recommended intervals.
Filter replacement

A dry paper air cleaner filter is used. It
must be replaced when necessary.
1. Loosen the air cleaner cover attaching
clips and open the cover.
2. Wipe the inside of the air cleaner
housing with a clean, damp cloth.
3. Replace the air cleaner filter. We rec-
ommend that the air cleaner filter be
replaced with genuine Kia parts.
4. Lock the cover with the cover attach-
ing clips.
Replace the filter according to the
Scheduled Maintenance Section.
If the vehicle is operated in extremely
dusty or sandy areas, replace the filter
more often than the usual recom-
mended intervals. (Refer to "Mainte-
nance under severe usage conditions"
on page 8-14.)
CAUTION
僅 Do not drive with the air cleaner
removed; this will result in excessive
engine wear.
僅 Driving without an air cleaner encour-
ages backfiring, which could cause a
fire in the engine compartment.
僅 When removing the air cleaner filter,
be careful that dust or dirt does not
enter the air intake, or damage may
result.
