Jack does not raise the lift unit. I have had the power unit apart and replace the defective ram (main piston seal crumbled when I removed the c-clip) seal. There is no leakage around the pump plunger and the release valve. (As Sean from the outside).
What is the next logical thing to check?

If the Craftsman FLOOR JACK 50156 does not raise the lift unit after replacing the main piston seal, check the following next:
1. Ensure the release valve is tightly closed. 2. Verify the jack is not overloaded (reduce weight if necessary). 3. Check for hydraulic unit malfunction.
If the problem persists, the power unit assembly may need replacement.

OPERATING PRINCIPLES • With release valve closed, an upward stroke of the jack handle draws oil from the reservoir tank into the plunger cavity. Hydraulic pressure holds a valve closed, which keeps the oil in the plunger cavity. • A downward stroke of the jack handle releases oil into the cylinder, which forces the ram out.
MAINTAINING OIL LEVEL Important: When adding or replacing oil, ALWAYS use a good grade Hydraulic Jack oil. DO NOT use Hydraulic Brake Fluid, Alcohol, Glycerine, Detergent, Motor Oil or dirty oil. Use of an improper fluid can cause serious internal damage to your jack. We recommend Mobil DTE13M or equivalent.
