Important Installation Instructions

1. Shut off main water supply. Relieve pressure from water lines.
2. Remove housing from filter head and set aside.
3. Wrap PTFE tape around the male compression adaptors (to the
right) and install into filter head. Do not use pipe solvent (dope)
as some types may cause damage to plastic fittings. Do not
overtighten as it may cause damage to filter head. Damage to unit
may result in property damage due to water leakage.
4. Calculate proper spacing of components. Measure distance and
mark pipe accordingly.
5. Cut pipe to length with pipe cutter.
6. Install filter head and ball shut-off valve onto pipe. Make sure the filter is connected with the correct flow
direction. Tighten compression nuts.
7. Mount bracket onto filter head. Use mounting holes provided to mount the system to a wall or support
structure.
8. Remove o-ring from housing, apply silicone grease (included in box) to the o-ring and reposition onto
housing.
9. Place cartridge in housing and screw the housing into the filter head, slowly turning the housing by hand
while maintaining vertical alignment and a constant upward pressure. The housing should thread fully
into the filter head; if any external housing threads are exposed after tightening, disassemble and repeat
steps 8-9. Then use the supplied wrench to apply a light snug fit.
NOTICE: To reduce the risk associated with property damage due to water leakage or flooding, only
use the housing wrench supplied with the product during cartridge change-out.
NOTICE: Overtightening could result in a housing crack which may lead to fluid leaking.
10. Slowly turn on main water supply. Open main shut-off valve and check for leaks. Unscrew the vent-valve
cap on the filter head and wait for air to purge. Screw in the vent-valve and tighten.
11. Check for leaks. Tighten housing as needed with the supplied wrench. If there is a leak, re-lubricate the
o-ring or change to a new o-ring that can be purchased from your local distributor or 3M representative.
Open shut-off valve after filter head.
12. Flush at least 10.5 gallons through system.
To reduce the risk associated with hazardous voltage:
• If the electrical system requires use of the cold water
system as an electrical safety ground, a jumper must be
used to ensure a sufficient ground connection across the
filter installation piping — refer installation to qualified
personnel.
To reduce the risk associated with property damage due to water leakage or flooding:
• Read and follow Use Instructions before installation and use of this system.
• Installation and use MUST comply with all state and local plumbing codes.
• Protect from freezing, remove filter cartridge when temperatures are expected to drop below 40°F
(4.4°C).
• SHUT OFF FUEL OR ELECTRIC POWER SUPPLY TO WATER HEATER after water is shut off.
