    A. Controls and Indicators Front Panel The front panel of the O3-4D1A provides connection to the OC3 and DS1 signals as well as the craft port. LEDs show OC3, DS1, and UNIT status. A 4-position DIP switch enables or disables each DS1. Front-panel controls and indicators are shown in Figure 1 and described in Table 5.

  • Page 21 DS1 Loopback Figure 8. DS1 Remote Loopbacks The O3-4D1A can recognize in-band and ESF data link loopback codes as shown in Figure 8. Units enter loopback after the enable code has been present for 5 seconds. To respond to DS1 loopbacks, the O3-4D1A must be provisioned as an NT (CPE-side) unit (default), have its loopbacks enabled (also default), and be provisioned for either ESF (default) or SF operation.

(from the OC3 fiber link) an AIS signal in the DS1 circuit being looped back, the O3-4D1A loopback will be deactivated to prevent the AIS from being transmitted back into the OC3 fiber link. The deactivation helps isolate the fault that caused the AIS.

In case of equipment malfunction, check the front-panel indicators. Reference Table 5. Since O3-4D1A and O3-4D1L3 units are used to extend DS1 circuits, they pass on network timing. As a result, standard T1 test sets might need to be provisioned for INTERNAL timing rather than Loop timing, as shown in Figure 9.
