15 Starting / Stopping the
Engine
15.1
Positions of Master Control
Lever
0
Stop 0 – engine off – the ignition is switched off
Normal run position (F) – engine runs or can fire.
Warm start (n) – this position is used to start a
warm engine.
Cold start (l) – this position is used to start a
cold engine.
15.2
Setting the Master Control
Lever
To move the Master Control lever from the nor‐
mal run position (F) to cold start (n), press down
the throttle lockout and squeeze the throttle trig‐
ger at the same time.
To select warm start (n), move the Master Con‐
trol lever to cold start (l) first, then push it into
the warm start position (n).
The change to warm start (n) is only possible
from the cold start position (l).

15 Starting / Stopping the Engine

The Master Control lever moves from warm
start (n) to the normal run position (F) when the
throttle trigger is operated.
To switch off the engine, move the Master Con‐
trol lever to Stop (0).
15.2.1
Choke shutter closed (l)
– if the engine is cold
– if the engine stalls when you open the throttle
after starting.
– if the fuel tank was run until empty (engine
stopped).
15.2.2
Starting throttle position (n)
– if the engine is warm, i.e. if it has been running
for about one minute.
– When the engine begins to fire
– after clearing a flooded combustion chamber.
15.3
Holding the Saw
There are two ways of holding the saw when
starting.
15.3.1
On the ground
► Place your saw on the ground. Make sure you
have a firm footing – check that the chain is
not touching any object or the ground.
► Hold the saw firmly on the ground with your
left hand on the front handle – your thumb
should be under the handle.
