7 (36) 3. Safety instructions for using the attachment Please bear in mind that safety is the result of several factors. The loader-attachment combination is highly powerful and improper or careless use or maintenance may cause serious personal injury or property damage.
  • Page 8 8 (36)  Risk of severe injuries from contact with moving parts - Never use the mower if all covers, blade guards, or other safety related parts are not intact and securely in place. Either the complete collector unit or side discharge guard or mulching kit must always be installed.
  • Page 9: Personal Protective Equipment

9 (36) Risk of cutting and severing - Sharp edges and severing points on work tools. Beware of the sharp blades and risk of crushing especially during maintenance or when removing DANGER blockages. Always stop the attachment by following the safe stopping procedure.
  • Page 10: Safe Shutdown Procedure

10 (36) 3.2 Safe shutdown procedure Safe stopping of the attachment, before going near the attachment: Always stop the attachment following safe stopping procedure before leaving the driver's seat. Safe stopping procedure prevents all unintentional movements of the attachment. Note that the loader boom can move down even if the engine of the loader is turned off.

14 (36) 4.2 Lifting Make sure that the attachment is properly secured against unintended movements during lifting operation. Use appropriate type of lifting accessories, lifting straps, chains or hooks, for example. Do not use lifting accessories if there are signs of damage, deformation, or otherwise unsafe conditions. Lift the lawn mower by using the lifting points, that are shown in the adjacent figure.
  • Page 15: Attaching The Attachment

Do not stay in the area between the attachment and the loader. Mount the attachment only on level surface. WARNING Never move or lift an attachment that has not been locked. Avant quick coupling system: Step 1:  Lift the locking pins of the quick coupling plate of the loader up, and turn them backwards into the slot, so that they are locked in the upper position.

5.1 Connecting and disconnecting hydraulic hoses On Avant loaders the hydraulic hoses are connected using the multi connector system. If you have an older model Avant 300-700 series loader with the conventional quick couplers, and you want to change to the multi connector system, contact your Avant dealer or service point for instructions or installation services.
  • Page 17 17 (36) Keep all fittings as clean as possible; use the protective caps on both the attachment and the loader. Dirt, ice, etc. may make using the fittings significantly more difficult. Never leave the hoses hanging on the ground; place the couplings onto the holder on the attachment.
  • Page 18: Instructions For Use

18 (36) 6. Instructions for use Check the attachment and the operating environment once more before starting to work, and that all obstacles have been removed from the operating area. Quick inspection of the equipment and the operating area before use are parts of ensuring safety and the best performance of the equipment.
  • Page 19: Safety Distance

19 (36) 6.1 Safety distance Hazard of thrown objects - Keep bystanders away. Note that the attachment can throw stones, gravel, or other objects found in the area at high speed. Always keep a safety WARNING distance of at least 2 metres to other persons. The minimum safety distance of the attachment is 2 metres from machine.
  • Page 20: Operator Qualification

20 (36) Ensure that bystanders are at a safe distance when operating the equipment. Do not let anyone to  enter danger area of the boom or to stay directly in front of the loader. Also make sure that it is safe to reverse with the loader.
  • Page 21: Using The Mower

21 (36) 6.4 Using the mower Set and adjust the mower to correct operating position before starting the mower. See following chapters about floating system and adjustments. Starting the mower: Move the auxiliary hydraulics control lever of the loader towards its locking position (or use electric buttons on joystick, if equipped) to operate the mower.
  • Page 22: Working On Uneven Ground

22 (36) Recommended operating speed and maximum allowed oil flow: Adjust engine RPM so that the loader's auxiliary hydraulic flow is within the specified range for the  mower. Too little flow will not rotate the blades fast enough for good mowing results. Correct flow ensures that the blades to rotate fast enough for a good finish.
  • Page 23: Transport Position

23 (36) 6.6 Transport position Keep the loader stable. Always stop the lawn mower before transport drive. Transport the attachment as low and close to the ground as possible. Keep the telescopic boom retracted during drive. Lock the OptiFloat® floating system with locking pin during transport drive.
  • Page 24: Optifloat

24 (36) 6.7 OptiFloat® The attachment is equipped with a mechanical floating system, which enables efficient operation on uneven terrains. Floating refers to a linkage that allows the attachment to follow the contours of the ground surface without moving the loader boom. OptiFloat® allows the attachment to tilt sideways as well and eliminates the need for floating of the loader boom.
  • Page 25: Safety Valve

25 (36) 6.7.1 Safety valve For safety, the attachment is equipped with a valve that prevents using the attachment when it has been lifted off the ground. The valve stops the hydraulic flow to the hydraulic motor of the attachment when the attachment is raised or when the floating has been set incorrectly.
  • Page 26: Handling Of The Clippings

6.9.2 Rear discharge In the rear discharge mode, the Lawn mower 1800 discards clippings through its rear discharge chute. Rear discharge requires less power than mulching mode, so it is often practical in large areas, as it makes it possible to mow slightly longer grass and at higher travel speed.
  • Page 27: Removing A Blockage

27 (36) 6.10 Removing a blockage It is unlikely that the cutting deck gets blocked in normal operation. However, when mowing wet grass or driving at too high speed, or if the mower deck is dirty, then the mower may get blocked. If blocking occurs, also check the cutting deck and clean if necessary.
  • Page 28: Storage

28 (36) 6.11 Storage Uncouple and store the attachment on level ground. The best way to store the attachment is a place where it is protected from direct sunlight, rain, and extreme temperatures.  Avoid leaving the attachment laying directly on the ground. Place it on blocks of wood or on a pallet, for example.
  • Page 29: Maintenance And Service

Finding any fault means that the hydraulic hose or component must be replaced and the equipment must not be used until it is repaired. Spare parts are available from your nearest AVANT retailer or authorised service point. Leave the repair work to professional service technicians, if you don’t have adequate knowledge and experience about hydraulic assemblies and how to perform the repairing safely.
  • Page 30: Cleaning And Lubricating

30 (36) 7.2 Cleaning and lubricating Cleaning Drying grass may build up to decrease the performance of the mower and should be removed after each use. Stop the loader and disconnect hydraulic couplings, then remove grass by using a stick or brush. If using a pressure washer for cleaning the rest of the mower, avoid spraying on the bearings, hydraulic components, or decal on the attachment.
  • Page 31: Sharpening And Replacing The Cutting Blades

31 (36) 7.3 Sharpening and replacing the cutting blades The blades wear down during normal use and the condition of the blades should be checked after every few uses. If the mowing deck is clean, signs that point to dull or damaged blades include the following: Decreased quality of cut, resulting in uneven cutting, torn grass, or yellowish grass after mowing ...
