CHAPTER 3. AWARD BIOS SETUP Award‘s ROM BIOS provides a built-in Setup program that allows user to modify the basic system configuration and settings. The modified data will be stored in a battery-backed CMOS RAM so that these data will be retained even when the power is turned off. In general, the information saved in the CMOS RAM stay unchanged unless there is configuration change in the system, such as hard drive replacement or new equipment is installed.

AWARD BIOS SETUP 16-bit/8-bit I/O Recovery (CLK): The I/O recovery mechanism adds bus clock cycles between PCI-originated I/O cycles to the ISA bus. This delay takes place because the PCI bus is so much faster than the ISA bus. These two fields let you add recovery time (in bus clock cycles) for 16-bit and 8-bit I/O.
AWARD BIOS SETUP 3.6 P OWER ANAGEMENT ETUP The “Power Management Setup” controls the CPU card‘s “Green” features. APPENDIX A. HOW TO USE WATCH-DOG TIMER You can enable the watch-dog when your application software monitors an unexpected or not responding, so then the timer generates a reset to reboot your system. During the period of enable to reset, you could still cancel reset by disabling the watch-dog. Decide the way you want to set the period for reset by selecting hardware or software watch-dog (if both of them are available).

GLOSSARY Mouse – The keyboard is a barrier to learn how to use a computer. Xerox Corporation first developed the concept of a pointing device, something a computer user could move with his or her hand, causing a corresponding move on screen. Because of its size and tail like cable, the device was named for the mouse.
