Before using this unit, carefully read the sections entitled: “USING THE UNIT SAFELY” and “IMPORTANT NOTES” (supplied on a separate sheet). These sections provide important in- formation concerning the proper operation of the unit.

    FZ-5 models these hard-to-find transistors at the component level to authentical- ly reproduce the classic fuzz sounds of the 1960s and 1970s. ● The FZ-5’s FUZZ knob features a BOOST range that allows you to achieve a deeper distor- tion than is possible with the original vintage models.

  • Page 8 BOSS Compact Pedals have a non-slip rubber pad attached to its bottom cover. Depending on the mate- rial and temperature of the surface on which you place the Compact Pedal, the rubber pad may discolor or mar the surface. You can place a piece of felt or cloth under the unit to prevent this from happening.

The original distortion range of the select- ed fuzz box model is reproduced when the FUZZ knob is set anywhere from fully counterclockwise to the center position. Turning the knob past the center position enables the BOOST range, which produc- es distortion that exceeds that available on the original model.
  • Page 12 Using the Mode Sticker A mode sticker is included on the cover of this guide. This sticker provides a reminder about the various fuzz box models that can be selected with the MODE knob. To make use of the sticker, peel it off the backing paper and affix it as shown in the figure.

    1. Loosen the thumbscrew at the front of the pedal, and then lift the pedal upwards to open the unit. * The thumbscrew can be left in the pedal while changing the battery. 2. Remove the old battery from the battery housing, and remove the snap cord con- nected to it.
