    R CAUTION: • Before installing options, the machine should be turned off and unplugged for at least thirty minutes. Components inside the machine become very hot, and can cause a burn injury if touched. • Before moving the machine, unplug the power cord from the outlet. If the cord is unplugged abruptly, it could become damaged.

How to Use the Screwdriver The screwdriver (A) is in the standard paper tray (Tray 1).

    This printer has two slots for SIMMs. The memory unit using 64 bit chips is not available. Be sure to turn off the printer. Pull out the first paper tray (Tray 1) and take the screwdriver (A) from the tray. Each of the screws that are to be removed requires this screwdriver.

    • When lifting the machine, use the grips on both sides. The ma- chine could break or cause an in- jury if dropped. Confirm that the printer is turned off, and pull the plug out of the wall outlet. Remove the tape that holds the paper bank, and remove the pack- ing material.

    The actual procedures may differ depending on your network environment. Use the appropriate procedures for your network environment. If you use TCP/IP protocol to print, the printer must also be configured to use TCP/IP protocol. Follow the instructions in "Setting Up the IP Parameters" sec- tion of this manual to configure your printer to use TCP/IP protocol.

    Configuring the Printer for the Network Setting Up the IP Parameters Configuring the Printer for the Network with the Operation Panel This section describes instructions on configuring the printer for the net- work using the printer's operation panel. You can also set up the IP Pa- rameters using the NIB Setup Tool.

A DHCP server man- ages the pool of available IP addresses and grants device requests for an IP ad- dress.

    Getting Ready for Software Installation This printer comes with two CD-ROMs. One is "Print Server Software and Doc- umentation", and the other is "Printer Drivers and Utilities". These CD-ROMs contain support programs for the installation and configuration of Network In- terface Board.

    You should install the PRINTER MANAGER FOR ADMINISTRATOR on your computer. If you install the PRINTER MANAGER FOR ADMINISTRA- TOR from a file server or run it via the network, the PRINTER MANAGER FOR ADMINISTRATOR might not work correctly. Be sure to close all applications before starting the installation procedure.

Insert the CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive. Close all the applications that are currently running. Click [Start] on the task bar, and click [Run].

If the printer drivers have already been installed, you can proceed to the next step. Generally, we recommend PCL 6 as your first choice, for it provides better WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) and higher speed than PCL 5e.
