IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

When using your electric skillet, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including the following:

READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USE

  • Be sure that handles are assembled and fastened properly.
  • Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
  • To protect against electric shock, do not immerse the temperature controller, cord or plug in water or other liquids.
  • Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.
  • Unplug the appliance from the outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow appliance to cool before putting on or taking off parts and before cleaning appliance.
  • Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug, or after the appliance malfunctions, or has been damaged in any manner. Return to an Authorized Service Station for examination, repair or electrical or mechanical adjustment. You can locate the nearest service center by calling 1.800.334.0759.
  • The use of accessory attachments not recommended by the appliance manufacturer may cause injuries.
  • Do not use outdoors.
  • Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter or touch hot surfaces.
  • Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner or in a heated oven.
  • Use extreme caution when moving the appliance if it contains hot oilor any other hot liquid.
  • Always attach the temperature controller to the appliance first, then plug intothe wall outlet. To disconnect, switch off, remove plug from the wall outlet, then remove the temperature controller from the appliance.
  • Only use the appliance with the OSTER® Temperature Controller.
  • Do not use appliance for anything other than its intended use.

EXTENSION CORD USE

A short power-supply cord is provided to reduce the risk resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord. An extension cord may be used if care is exercised in its use. If an extension cord is used, the electrical rating of the cord must be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance. The extension cord should be arranged so that it will not drape over the countertop or tabletop where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over unintentionally.

POWER CORD INSTRUCTIONS

Please follow the instructions below to ensure the safe use of the power cord.

  • This appliance is equipped with a 3 prong plug. This is a safety feature intended to help reduce the risk of electrical shock. If you are unable to insert the plug into the outlet, contact a qualified electrician to replace the obsolete outlet. Do not attempt to defeat the safety purpose of the 3 prong plug by modifying the plug in any way.
  • Follow these guidelines if using an extension cord:
    • The marked electrical rating of the extension cord must be 120 volt, 60 Hz, 10A.
    • The extension must be arranged so that it will not drape over the countertop or tabletop, will not be within the reach of children and will not be tripped over.
  • Do not pull, twist, or otherwise abuse the power cord.

SHORT CORD INSTRUCTIONS

A short power-supply cord is provided to reduce the risk resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord.

Longer detachable power-supply cords or extension cords are available and may be used if care is exercised in their use.

If a longer detachable power-supply cord or extension cord is used, (1) the marked electrical rating of the extension cord should be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance, and (2) the longer cord should be arranged so that it will not drape over the countertop or tabletop where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over unintentionally.

DIRECTIONS FOR GRILLING

  1. Wash Grill surface and base in hot, soapy water. Rinse and dry thoroughly.
  2. Attach Grill Plate to base.
  3. Set Temperature Control to "OFF." Insert Temperature Control into the Temperature Control Receptacle and plug the Cord into a standard 120 volt AC outlet. Be sure Temperature Control is inserted fully into receptacle.
  4. Set Temperature Control to desired setting. Indicator Light will illuminate.
  5. Indicator Light goes off when correct cooking temperature is reached. During cooking, indicator light may cycle off and on as thermostat maintains temperature.
  6. When food is completely cooked, it can be kept warm by setting Temperature Control to "WARM SIMMER."
  7. After use, set Temperature Control to "OFF" position, unplug unit from outlet and then unplug from Temperature Control Receptacle.

SPICE BOX USAGE*

The spice box can be used to infuse your food with spices and/or herbs, or as a marinade box.

  • TO USE FOR INFUSING FOOD – Place herbs or spices in box and close lid.
    For best results, place food over or close to the vents on the top of the box.
  • TO USE AS A MARINADE BOX – Pour your favorite marinade into the box and leave lid open. Use a brush throughout cooking to brush hot marinade over your food.

Contents of spice box will become very hot while cooking.

CONDITIONING OF THE NON-STICK COATED GRILL

Before using your new appliance, wash the grilling surface with warm, sudsy water and dry. Rub a film of cooking or salad oil all over the non-stick coating. Remove any excess oil with a cloth or paper towel.

The Indoor Grill is now ready for use and it is unnecessary to condition it again.

DIRECTIONS FOR CLEANING

Before cleaning make sure unit is cool.

  1. Remove Temperature Control from Temperature Control Receptacle. Allow grill to cool.
  2. Grip Base with one hand and grip Safety Handle with other hand. Slowly pull up on the Safety Handle while holding the Base down. If grill is hot, use oven mitt.
  3. Rinse Grill Plate and Base and place in dishwasher. NOTE: Grill Base should be put on the top dishwasher rack only. You can also wash in hot, soapy water.
  4. DO NOT wash Grill Plate with the Temperature Control connected.
  5. Make sure Grill Plate and Base are completely dry before using.

TIPS AND SUGGESTIONS

  1. DO NOT use sharp metal utensils or knives to cut food on the Grill Plate.
  2. DO NOT place the Temperature Control on the Grill Plate surface. It may scratch or damage the surface of the Grill Plate.
  3. DO NOT use cleansers, nylon or metal brushes. It may scratch or damage the surface of the Grill Plate.
  4. DO NOT use Grill Plate on any other surface except base.
