Description

The Greenlee 1110 Voltage Detector is intended to check for the presence of AC voltage, signaling the user with an intermittent tone and a flashing LED.

The pocket clip serves as an on and off switch.

Important Safety Information

	Read and understand this material before operating or servicing this equipment. Failure to understand how to safely operate this tool can result in an accident causing serious injury or death.
	Electric shock hazard: Contact with live circuits can result in severe injury or death.

Using this unit near equipment that generates electromagnetic interference can result in unstable or inaccurate readings.

Operation

The Greenlee 1110 is useful for identifying hot and neutral conductors, finding a break in a wire, and detecting the the presence of AC voltage at outlets, switches, circuit breakers, fuses, and wires and cables, including Romex^®.

Note: The 1110 can be used to find a break in a wire:

• To find a break in a hot conductor, trace the wire until the signal stops.
• To find a break in a neutral conductor, connect a load between the hot and neutral. Trace the wire until the signal stops.

1. Turn the unit on by pushing the pocket clip toward the probe.
2. Test the unit on a known functioning circuit or component.
   • If the unit does not function as expected on a known functioning circuit, replace the batteries.
   • If the unit still does not function as expected, send the unit to Greenlee for repair.
3. Place the probe tip on or near the circuit or unit to be tested. Tone and flashing LED indicate the presence of voltage (50 to 1000 VAC).

Note: The voltage detector cannot detect voltage on armored cable or on cable in conduit, behind panels, or in metallic enclosures.

Maintenance

Battery Replacement

1. Disconnect the unit from the circuit.
2. Remove the battery compartment cover.
3. Replace the batteries (observe polarity).
4. Replace the battery compartment cover.
   

Cleaning

Periodically wipe the case with a damp cloth and mild detergent; do not use abrasives or solvents.
