Introduction
.
With your new epilator you can remove unwanted hair
quickly, easily and effectively. It is particularly suitable for
removing hair from your legs.
The rotating discs catch even the shortest hairs (down to
0.5mm) and pull them out by the root. The hairs that
grow back are soft and thin. Epilating with this new
appliance leaves your skin smooth and hair-free for
several weeks.

Important
.
Read these instructions for use carefully before using the
appliance and save them for future reference.
◗ Check if the mains voltage indicated on the
appliance corresponds to the local mains voltage
before you connect the appliance.
◗ Regular cleaning and proper maintenance ensure
optimal results and a long life for your appliance.
◗ Do not allow the appliance to come into contact
with water.
◗ Do not use the epilating head on irritated skin or
skin with varicose veins, rashes, spots, moles (with
hairs) or wounds without consulting your doctor
first. People with a reduced immune response, e.g.
during pregnancy, or people who suffer from
diabetes mellitus, haemophilia or immunodeficiency
should also consult their doctor first.
◗ Regular massages with a loofah may help to prevent
ingrowing hairs. Do not use the loofah immediately
before or after epilation.
◗ Using an epilator may cause reddening or irritation
of the skin. This is a normal reaction that will
quickly disappear. However, you should consult
your doctor if the irritation has not disappeared
within three days.
◗ To prevent damage and injuries, keep the running
appliance away from your hair, eyebrows, eyelashes,
clothes, threads, cords, brushes, etc
◗ Keep the appliance out of the reach of children.
◗ Only use the appliance in combination with the
mains cord supplied.
◗ If the mains cord of this appliance is damaged, it
must always be replaced by Philips or a service
centre authorised by Philips in order to avoid
hazardous situations.
Preparing for use
.
◗ Make sure your skin is clean, entirely dry and free
from grease. Do not use any cream before you start
epilating.
◗ Epilation is easier just after taking a bath or shower.
Make sure your skin is completely dry when you
start epilating.
◗ When you use the appliance for the first time, we
advise you to try it out on an area with only light
hair growth to get accustomed to the epilation
process.
.
Epilator HP6409
◗ As the hairs are removed by the root, epilation may
cause some skin discomfort the first few times you
use the epilator. This effect will gradually diminish
when you use the appliance more often. Regrowth
tends to be softer both in appearance and to the
touch.
◗ After epilation, you can apply a mild cream or lotion
to help reduce possible skin irritation. It will make
your skin feel smoother and will give you a fresh
sensation. Do not use lotions that contain alcohol.
Using the appliance
Attaching and removing the shaving or epilating head
1
Make sure the appliance is switched off.
2
You can remove the shaving or epilating head by
pushing the ribbed section with your thumb in the
direction of the arrow indicated on the back of the
shaving or epilating head and then lifting it off the
appliance (fig. 2).
3
You can attach the shaving or epilating head by
placing it onto the appliance and pushing it against the
direction of the arrow indicated on the back of the
shaving or epilating head until it snaps home (fig. 3).
You will hear a click when the shaving or epilating head
snaps into place.
Connecting the appliance
1
Insert the appliance plug into the appliance (fig. 4).
2
Insert the mains plug into the wall socket (fig. 5).
Epilating the legs
1
Switch the appliance on by selecting the desired
speed.
◗ Select speed I for areas with little hair growth, for
hard-to-reach areas and for areas where bones are
located directly beneath the skin, such as knees and
ankles (fig. 6).
◗ Select speed II for larger areas with stronger hair
growth (fig. 7).
2
Stretch the skin with your free hand to make the
hairs stand upright (fig. 8).
B
Stretching the skin properly is particularly important if
you have sensitive or delicate skin.
3
Place the epilator perpendicularly onto the skin
with the on/off slide pointing in the direction in
which you are going to move the appliance (fig. 9).
4
Move the appliance slowly over the skin, against the
direction of hair growth (fig. 10).
Do not apply pressure.
5
Switch the appliance off by pushing the on/off slide
to position 0 (fig. 11).
Epilating the underarms and bikini line
Your epilator comes with a SoftPrecision cap that makes
the appliance suitable for epilating the more delicate
parts of the body, such as the underarms and bikini line.
The SoftPrecision cap reduces the number of epilating
discs that are active and stretches the skin during
epilating. This makes the appliance ideal for the more
delicate areas of the body.
B
You will get the best results when the hairs are not too
long (max. 0.5 mm).
