Nikon AF-S TELECONVERTER TC-14E III Manual

Introduction

Thank you for your purchase of a Nikon teleconverter. Mounted between the lens and the camera body, this lens attachment increases lens magnification by 1.4 ×. Before using this product, please carefully read these instructions together with the camera and lens manuals.

warning CAUTIONS

  • Do not disassemble. Touching the internal parts of the equipment could result in injury. In the event of malfunction, the product should be repaired only by a qualified technician. Should the product break open as the result of a fall or other accident, remove the camera battery and/or disconnect the AC adapter and then take the product to a Nikon-authorized service center for inspection.
  • burn hazard Turn the camera off immediately in the event of malfunction. Should you notice smoke or an unusual smell coming from the equipment, immediately unplug the AC adapter and remove the camera battery, taking care to avoid burns. Continued operation could result in fire or injury. After removing the battery, take the equipment to a Nikon-authorized service center for inspection.
  • burn hazard Do not use in the presence of flammable gas. Operating electronic equipment in the presence of flammable gas could result in explosion or fire.
  • Do not look at the sun through the lens or the camera viewfinder. Viewing the sun or other bright light source through the lens, viewfinder, or teleconverter could cause permanent visual impairment.
  • Keep out of reach of children. Failure to observe this precaution could result in injury.
  • Observe the following precautions when handling the equipment:

  • burn hazard Do not leave the product where it will be exposed to extremely high temperatures, such as in an enclosed automobile or in direct sunlight. Failure to observe this precaution could cause damage or fire.

Attaching and Removing Lenses

Lenses can be attached to and removed from the teleconverter as described below.

Attaching Lenses

Before removing the lens from the camera for attachment to the teleconverter, find a location out of direct sunlight and turn the camera off. To attach the lens to the teleconverter, align the mounting mark on the lens with the lens mounting mark on the teleconverter ( ) and place the lens on the teleconverter lens mount. Being careful not to press the lens release tab, rotate the teleconverter counterclockwise (as seen from the rear) until the lens clicks into place.

Removing Lenses

Keeping the lens release tab pressed ( ), rotate the teleconverter clockwise (as seen from the rear) until the mounting marks ( ) are aligned and then remove the lens from the teleconverter.

Attaching and Removing the Teleconverter

The teleconverter can be attached to and removed from the camera as described below.

Attaching the Teleconverter

Choose a location out of direct sunlight and turn the camera off. Align the teleconverter mounting mark ( ) with the lens mounting mark on the camera and place the teleconverter on the camera lens mount. Being careful not to press the lens release tab or the camera lens release button, rotate the camera counterclockwise (as seen from the rear) until the teleconverter clicks into place.

Removing the Teleconverter

Keeping the camera lens release button pressed, rotate the camera clockwise (as seen from the rear) until the mounting marks ( ) are aligned and then remove the teleconverter.

Exposure

The teleconverter decreases the eff ective aperture by one stop.

Product Care

  • Keep the CPU contacts clean.
  • Use a blower to remove dust and lint from glass surfaces.
  • The fluorine-coated front and rear elements of the teleconverter can be cleaned simply by wiping them with a dry cloth. Smudges and fingerprints can be removed using a soft, clean cotton cloth or lens cleaning tissue; clean from the center outwards using a circular motion, taking care not to leave smears or touch the glass surface with your fingers. To remove stubborn stains, wipe gently using a soft cloth dampened with a small amount of distilled water, ethanol, or lens cleaner. Drop-shaped stains on the water- and oil-repellent fluorine-coated elements can be removed with a dry cloth.
  • Never use organic solvents such as paint thinner or benzene to clean the product.
  • Attach the front and rear caps when the product is not in use.
  • If the product will not be used for an extended period, store it in a cool, dry location to prevent mold and rust. Do not store in direct sunlight or with naphtha or camphor moth balls.
  • Keep the product dry. Rusting of the internal mechanism can cause ir-reparable damage.
  • Leaving the product in extremely hot locations could damage or warp parts made from reinforced plastic.
