Failure to use a proper cleaning solvent might harm and permanently damage the electron beam
unit.
A cleaning solvent with h h i i g g h h p p u u r r i i t t y y and of a type that will not leave any residues is crucial for proper opera-
tion of the Arcam EBM system and has to be ordered and present at the site upon the time for installation.
Cleaning solvents are subject to transport restrictions (explosive) and therefore not included in the Arcam
EBM system shipment and have to be bought from a local supplier. The solvent has to be available at the
time of installation.
When cleaning the C C o o l l u u m m n n a a n n d d V V a a c c u u u u m m C C h h a a m m b b e e r r with the solvent, use a lint-free cleaning cloth or pa-
pers to prevent arc trips.
Always use gloves and preferably long sleeves when cleaning.
Have a routine of cleaning column and vacuum chamber and of cleaning the tools after each use.

• Pharma- or analytical grade alcohol with a purity level of minimum 9 9 9 9 . . 5 5 % % .
• Pure isopropanol (2-propanol) or a mix of isopropanol / ethanol with a minimum of 3 3 0 0 % % isopropanol can
be used.
• Products with any kind of lubricant (oil, graphite etc.) are absolutely forbidden to use in the EBM system.

In addition to the above EcoSolv E solvent, alcohol products like ProClean Flux Remover and Master-
Cleaner can be used for cleaning the upper EBM column parts. These products are ultra-pure alcohol
based flux removers.
