The Vi king Model M Quick Re sponse
Ex tended Cov er age (QREC) Dry Side -
wall Sprin kler is a thermosensitive
glass-bulb spray sprin kler, suit able for
use in ar eas sub ject to freez ing. It is de -
signed for dry sys tems and preaction
sys tems where nec es sary to pre vent
wa ter or con den sa tion from en ter ing the
sup ply nip ple prior to sprin kler ac tu a -
tion. This sprin kler may also be in stalled
in spaces sub ject to freez ing and sup -
plied from a wet sys tem in an ad ja cent
heated area.
The as sem bly fea tures a sealed brass
in let and a du ra ble threaded steel bar rel
with an Elec tro de pos it ed Ep oxy Base
coat ing. This sprin kler is of the Model M
de sign with a rug ged 3 mm glass bulb
and hor i zon tal style side wall de flec tor.
The QREC Dry Hor i zon tal Side wall
Sprin kler is avail able in sev eral fin ishes
and tem per a ture rat ings to meet de sign
re quire ments (see Ta ble 1).
The seal at the threaded end of the as -
sem bly is held in place by force trans mit -
ted from the com pres sion screw through
the glass bulb and in ter nal parts, onto a
spe cial seal ing spring. Dur ing fire con di -
tions, the heat-sensitive liq uid in the
glass bulb ex pands, caus ing the glass to
shat ter, re leas ing the in ter nal parts to
open the wa ter way. Wa ter flow ing
through the sprin kler or i fice strikes the
sprin kler de flec tor, form ing a uni form
spray pat tern to ex tin guish or con trol the
fire.

tended Cov er age Dry Hor i zon tal Side -
wall Sprin kler is in stalled with the re -
cessed style es cutch eon with up to 5/8"
(15,9 mm) ad just ment (see Fig ure A) to
pro vide a re cessed ap pear ance. The
es cutch eon slips over the sprin kler de -

The dry hor i zon tal side wall sprin klers
are or dered in spe cific lengths noted as
the "A" di men sion (see Fig ure A). The
"A" di men sion is the dis tance from the
face of the fit ting (tee) to the fin ished sur -
face of the wall in which it is to be in -
stalled. The dry hor i zon tal side wall
sprin kler must be or dered and man u fac -
