To remove and install a shackle on a 1205 American Lock padlock (assuming it follows the same procedure as Series 1105 or 748 described):
Removal: 1. Insert and rotate the key clockwise to open the shackle. 2. Remove the key. 3. Rotate the shackle to expose the shackle hole. 4. Use an Allen wrench (likely 5/32") to remove the security screw at the bottom of the shackle hole. 5. Remove the cylinder housing and slide out the cover plate using needle nose pliers. 6. Remove the cylinder assembly and bypass restriction plate. 7. Grip the retainer with needle nose pliers and remove it. 8. Use a 1/8” Allen wrench to remove the dog point screw from the back side of the lockbody. 9. Remove the shackle and shackle spring. 10. Remove the two ball bearings.
Installation: 1. Insert the shackle spring into the shackle hole. 2. Insert the new shackle and hold it in the closed position. 3. Secure the dog point screw with a 1/8” Allen wrench. 4. Reinstall the retainer, bypass restriction plate, cylinder assembly, cover plate, and cylinder housing. 5. Insert and tighten the security screw in the shackle hole. 6. Close the shackle and test with the key.
