Introduction AP-4000/4000M/4900M User Guide Mesh Networking Mesh Networking Using the ORiNOCO Mesh Creation Protocol (OMCP), the AP-4000/4000M/4900M supports structured Mesh networking. In a Mesh network, access points use their wireless interface as a backhaul to the rest of the network. Access points connected directly to the wired infrastructure are called “Portals;”...

    • The maximum number of links downlinks from a Mesh Portal to Mesh APs in the tree is 32. Proxim recommends a maximum of 30-40 APs total per portal (whether connected directly to the Portal or to another Mesh AP) for an average per-client throughput of 300-500 Kbps.

ORiNOCO Enterprise MIB Proxim provides these MIB files on the CD-ROM included with each Access Point. You need to compile one or more of the above MIBs into your SNMP program’s database before you can manage an Access Point using SNMP. See the documentation that came with your SNMP manager for instructions on how to compile MIBs.

When transmitting, the AP chooses the antenna with the highest success rate, and broadcasts are transmitted on alternating antennas. Antenna diversity is enabled by default (set to “auto”) per wireless interface. When using the internal antennas, Proxim recommends leaving antenna diversity enabled. However, you may disable antenna diversity by manually selecting which antenna to use for each wireless interface through the Command Line Interface.
