    Turn off the computer and unplug it. Failure to do so may result in damage to both the MT2834ZPW and the computer. Do not turn the computer on until the instructions tell you to do so. Remove the cover from the computer as instructed in the computer manual.

    All Multi-Tech modems are thoroughly tested before they leave the factory. Nonetheless, for your own peace of mind, we recommend that you run the following tests after installing your MT2834ZPW, to confirm that it works with your system. Users who are new to Windows 95, or have never downloaded a file or sent a fax from a computer before, will also find this chapter valuable as a mini-tutorial.

Try the answering machine test first; if that doesn’t work, and you have a microphone and speaker connected to the MT2834ZPW, try the loopback and speakerphone tests, which can test the modem’s voice circuits without special software.
