Chapter 1 — Functional Description Overview Overview The Dual Microphone Supply Type 5935 has two main functions. Firstly, the unit supplies the necessary power requirements to attached microphone preamplifiers. Secondly, active circuitry makes it possible to amplify the output of the preamplifi- ers by up to +55 dB and to apply an A-weighting filter network.

(8V - 16 VDC) – ve 921798e Fig.1.1 Block diagram of Type 5935 Note: Because of the switched mode of operation, the output 0V is not referenced to the negative terminal of the internal batteries or external source. This is to reduce noise within the system.
1’s output appears on channel 2’s front- panel output socket. The LIN and A-weighted output sockets on the rear panel are DC coupled, and cannot be swapped. 1–4 Dual Microphone Supply Type 5935 Brüel&Kjær User Guide...
The front panel of the Type 5935 is shown in Fig.2.1. Fig.2.1 Front panel 2.1.1 Warning Indicators There are three type of warning indicator on the front panel of the Type 5935: Power On indicating that power from either internal or external sources is reaching the power supply section.
When plugged in, the preamplifier receives its drive voltage, the microphone-capsule polarization voltage, and the microphone heater voltage (if applied on rear panel) from the Type 5935 power supply. The preamplifier output signal also passes into the unit’s amplifiers through this connector.
Chapter 2 — Controls and Connections Rear Panel Rear Panel The rear panel of the Type 5935 is shown in Fig.2.2. Fig.2.2 Rear Panel 2.2.1 Battery Cover The knurled knob at the top of the rear panel gives access to the battery compart- ment, which lies under the top panel.
Note: On no account should any of the trim potentiometers now accessible be touched. Changing them causes the unit to be mis-aligned and not be within speci- fication. Re-alignment to specification can only be carried out by Brüel&Kjær repre- sentatives. 2–5 BE 1300– 12 Dual Microphone Supply Type 5935 User Guide...

Chapter 3 — Operation Applying Power Applying Power 3.1.1 Power Sources There are four main sources of power for the Type 5935: Internal rechargeable batteries Internal non-rechargeable batteries External 12V battery External AC/DC converter (8–16 V output). When any of these sources is connected correctly and the On/Off switch is in the On position, the Power On LED lights.
“charged” in this way. When an external supply is connected and there are rechargeable batteries in the Type 5935, the batteries receive a charge current. If the On/Off switch is in the On position, the charge current is limited to 60mA.
On/Off switch is in the Off position and an external supply is connected. Grounding Considerations The signal path in the Type 5935 is referenced to the chassis of the unit. The output connectors, the ground for the preamplifiers and the heater input also use this reference ground.
Input Connection Input to the Type 5935 is via a Brüel & Kjær 7-pin preamplifier socket. The connec- tions to this socket are shown below. All standard Brüel & Kjær preamplifiers can be connected to this socket, except the Type 2660.
921882e Fig.3.4 Preamplifier connections (external view) If you need to send a signal into the Type 5935 other than from a preamplifier, for instance for testing and alignment, adaptor WJ 0185 can be fitted. This adaptor converts an unbalanced BNC to a 7-pin preamplifier plug. The supply voltages from the Type 5935 are not available in this mode.
±5 dB, so setting the gain to 20 dB and then trying to achieve a 26dB gain would not succeed. Measurement of the 1V at the output of the Type 5935 could be done using a measuring amplifier, for example Type 2636, using an oscilloscope, or using metering on the equipment attached to the output.

Chapter 5 — Service and Repair Dual Microphone Supply Type 5935 is designed and constructed to provide the user with many years of reliable operation. However, if a fault occurs which impairs its correct function and operating safety, then immediately disconnect it from the pow- er source and remove it from the instrument set-up to secure against unintended operation and prevent the risk of further damage.
