Note: ‐
Brakes on NC Trailers/Trailed Implements are designed to give minimum 25%, 45% or 50%
braking efficiency: subject to local regulations and specification. The Breakaway device is
only designed to give 13.5% braking efficiency so will take longer to bring the Trailer/Trailed
appliance to a stop.
For each of these devices to correctly work the brakes must be properly serviced,
maintained and adjusted in‐line with this manual. Failure to maintain the brakes could lead
to the failure of this device in a breakaway situation.
If functioning correctly air brakes will automatically apply in a breakaway situation.
Powerbrake
The Powerbrake replaces the conventional ratchet type park brake. To operate as a park
brake the lever is ratcheted in the conventional manner and the brakes are released by
pushing the lever against the spring release mechanism.
The breakaway function is provided by connecting the wire rope at the top of the
Powerbrake lever to the rear of the tractor. In the event of a breakaway the wire rope pulls
tight and engages the Powerbrake before the wire rope potentially snaps as the Tractor and
Trailer/Trailed Implement become separated. The application of the Powerbrake will bring
the Trailer/Trailed Implement to a stop.
Cable Breakaway System
‐
Connect the brake valve to the tractor
‐
Connect the wire rope between the R‐clip and the rear of the tractor
‐
Ensure the R‐clip is positioned in the valve as shown below: ‐
‐
De‐press the tractor brake pedal and hold for 30 seconds after the brakes
have applied.
‐
Pump the pedal a couple of times to ensure the system is fully bled and
primed.
‐
The unit is now ready for operation.
If the Trailer/Trailed Implement breaks away from the tractor the cable will cause the
R‐clip to rotate allowing the pressure in the accumulator to apply the brakes.
