Installing the Mulch Kit
Important:
For Serial Numbers 790,000 and
higher, multiple accessories added to a base
unit can change the stability of the machine.
Read the unit operator's manual to determine if
counterbalance weights are necessary for the
accessories installed on the unit.
1.
Make sure all moving parts have stopped,
parking brake is engaged, and the key has been
removed.
2.
Raise the front of the machine and support with
jack stands.
CAUTION
Raising the mower deck for service
or maintenance relying solely on
mechanical or hydraulic jacks could be
dangerous. The mechanical or hydraulic
jacks may not be enough support or
may malfunction allowing the unit to fall,
which could cause injury.
Do Not rely solely on mechanical
or hydraulic jacks for support. Use
adequate jack stands or equivalent
support.
3.
Remove the blades; retain for removal of the
finish cut kit.

Remove the discharge baffle as shown in

For Serial Numbers 790,000 and Higher:
Using a drill, or a hammer and punch, remove
the material from the holes in the top of the deck
and the two in the front of the deck as shown
in
Figure
4.
For Serial Numbers 790,000 and Lower:
Remove the hardware in these holes as shown
in
Figure 4

Install the mulching baffles (items 1 and 2) and
blocker baffle (item 3). Refer to
use the hardware shown.
7.
Align the holes on the cover plate (item 4) to
holes on the right side of the deck and RH mulch
baffle (see
heads to the outside of the deck.
8.
Install new mulching blades (item 5*) in place of
the existing blades. Torque blade bolt to 55-60
ft-lb (75-81 N-m).
WARNING
Incorrect installation of the blade or
components used to retain the blade can
be dangerous. Failure to use all original
components and assembled as shown
could allow a blade or blade component
to be thrown out from under the deck

resulting in serious personal injury or
death.
Always install the original Exmark blades
and blade retaining hardware as shown
in the Operator's manual.
9.
Install hardware back into the hole in the top
of the deck where the discharge baffle was
removed. For Lazer, Lazer XP, and Lazer XS
units Serial Number 539,000 and lower, reinstall
the belt guide with a spring disc washer under
g008557
the head of the inner bolt and adjust the belt
guide 1/8 inch from the belt. All open holes
in the top of the deck not covered by shields
must be plugged to prevent sand or other small
objects from being thrown up through the deck.
10.
Tighten all hardware.
11.
Carefully remove the jack stands and lower the
machine to the ground.
