    * Due to operating system restrictions when printing out using a Windows 95/98/Me printer driver, the maximum length that the printout can be is 1300 mm for KM-P4850w and 1189 mm for KM-P4845w regardless of whether or not you have increased the printer's memory capacity.

    Section 4 Basic Printing Procedure The following basic printing procedure is explained as though you are using the WordPad application under a Windows 95 environment. Since the actual printing procedure will differ depending upon your operating system and the application you use, refer to the Instruction Manual for the system and application in use, or to the corresponding Help.

    Section 5 Making Printing Settings Operation under Windows 95/98/Me The following explains operation procedures as though you are using a Windows 95 environment. If you are using Windows 98 or Windows Me, use this procedure simply as reference. Opening the [Properties] dialog box There are two methods of opening the [Properties] dialog box: from the [Printers] folder or from within the application in use.

  • Page 39 The settings that can be made in the [Properties] dialog box are separated by content and located under different tabs. The following explanations are for settings under the [Paper] Tab, the [Graphics] Tab and the [Device Options] Tab which relate to printer-specific settings. [Paper] Tab [Paper size] field: Displays the available paper sizes.

[Paper source] field: Displays the presently selected location from which paper will be fed.     Section 3 Setting up the Printer Driver Installing the Printer Driver In order to use your printer for a Macintosh computer, the LaserWriter 8 printer driver and the PPD file for this model printer must be install in the computer.

    2-3-1 Spooler Icon The [Spooler] screen displays printing conditions and allows you to change and cancel print jobs, etc. Only the Administrator can cancel a print job which originated from another computer. [Spool Disk] bar: Indicates the amount of memory allotted for spooling that is currently being used. [Spooler] area: Indicates the current status of the spooler, the number of jobs being spooled and the automatic refresh rate.

  • Page 75 2-3-2 Device Icon The [Device] screen displays the status of the printer and allows you to make settings related to options. There are two sub-screens under the [Device] menu: the [Status] screen and the [Option] screen. [Status] screen: Allows you to verify the status of the printer in graphical and text messages.
  • Page 76 * [Drawer 1] (drawer 1) is an optional accessory. [Status] area: Displays the status of the printer in graphical and text messages. For information in regard to the appropriate procedure if an error occurs, refer to the Help Icon.
  • Page 77 The [Option] screen allows you to make option-related settings. Be sure to click on the [Enter] button if you change any settings. [Max Error Retries] field: Set the number of times the printer will attempt to reprint after an error. Setting is possible between 1 and 9999 times.

If you select [always enables Auto Rotation], Auto Rotation will be enabled regardless of the settings made in the printer driver or Print Utility. [Linear Measure Adjustment] settings: Adjust the 1:1 magnification ratio for each type of paper.

    Page 3-17 2-3-3 Config Icon The [Config] screen allows you to change spooling settings. The [Config] screen contains 4 tabs: [Network], [Server], [Logging] and [Language]. [Network] Tab Sets the refresh rate for spooling information. [Spooler Data Refresh] settings: Select between "Automatic" (0 - 999 seconds) and "Manual" refresh. [Configuration for Administrators] setting: Select a refresh rate between 10 and 999 seconds.
  • Page 80 [Server] Tab Shows system information for the print server and determines how data for finished jobs will be handled. [Printed Jobs Action] The following 2 settings determine the condition for deleting finished print jobs: [Enable deletion by time] checkbox and field: Put a check mark in this checkbox and set the time for jobs to be deleted between 1 and 99999 hours.
  • Page 81 [Logging] Tab The System Log, Account Log and AutoPrint Log settings can be changed in their corresponding tabs. NOTE If you increase the collection level in any of the log files, the size of the corresponding file will increase. [System Log] Tab Set the collection level and the number of back-up revisions that will be saved for the System Log.

It is also possible to select the time frame for which that data will be displayed. [AutoPrint Log] Tab The AutoPrint Log, which shows the printing results when the [Auto Print] function is used as well as printing errors, can be displayed or downloaded.

    2-3-5 User Icon The [User] screen allows you to manage individual or group use. Group [Group] column: Displays a list of the currently registered groups. [New Group] button: Click on this button when you want to access the [Group Management] dialog box in which you can create new groups.

[New User] button: Click on this button when you want to access the [User Management] dialog box in which you can register new users. [Properties] button: Click on this button when you want to access the [User Management] dialog box that corresponds to the selected user.
  • Page 87 Creating a New Group Click on the [New Group] button and the [Group Management] dialog box will open. Register the desired information and settings. [Group Name] field: Enter up to 20 characters for the Group Name. [Limit Sheet Max] checkbox and fields: Limits the number of prints that group can make during the designated period.

[User Name] field: Enter up to 20 characters for the User Name. [Password] field: Enter up to 14 characters for the password. (This field can be left blank.) [Confirm Password] field: For verification purposes, enter exactly the same password as you did in the [Password] field.
