DISPLAY MENU settings

Select monitor type

Most movie DVD discs are recorded for wide-screen TVs with a
height/width ratio of 16:9. It is possible to optimize playback of
these wide-screen TV images for viewing on a regular TV with a
height/width ratio of 4:3.

Open the DISPLAY menu.
See "Using the preference setting menus" on page 44.

Move the pointer to MONITOR TYPE using the
5 5 5 5 /∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ cursors.

Press the 2 2 2 2 /3 3 3 3 cursors to select monitor
type.
Pressing the cursors toggles between the following monitor
configurations.
4:3 LB (Letter Box Conversion):
4:3 PS (Pan-scan Conversion):
16:9 WIDE (Wide Television Screen 16:9):
Note:
• If the DVD disc is not optimized for Pan-scan, the image
will be shown in 4:3 LB (Letter Box Conversion), even if
4:3 PS (Pan-scan Conversion) is selected.

Select this option for playback on
a TV with a height/width ratio of
4:3.
The image will be displayed with
a black bar at the top and bottom
of the screen. The left and right
edges of the image are preserved.
Select this option for playback on
a TV with a height/width ratio of
4:3.
The image will be displayed with
the right and left edges cropped.
No black gap will appear at the
top and bottom of the screen.
Select this option for
playback on a wide-
screen TV.

Screen saver settings

Set the screen saver to prevent screen burn.

Move the pointer to SCREEN SAVER using the
5 5 5 5 /∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ cursors.

Press the 2 2 2 2 /3 3 3 3 cursors to select a screen
saver mode.
Pressing the cursors toggles between the following screen
saver modes:
MODE 1: The picture gets dark.
MODE 2: The "screen saver" picture appears and its
brightness changes.
OFF:
The screen saver function is off.
Notes:
• Please be wary of screen burn when the screen saver is
turned OFF.
• The screen saver function does not work for Audio CDs.

On-screen guide settings

During DVD playback, an on-screen guide displaying symbols or
letters over the DVD image can be set ON or OFF.
