8. GLOSSARY (XLR8 SERIES)

A wavelength specific lens focuses the laser to a small spot and maintains this spot size over the
entire target field.
A scanner with limited rotation magnetic torque motor with position feedback. The galvanometer
(galvo) rotates a mirror to direct the laser beam.
Hewlett Packard Graphics Language, a graphics format which the WaveRunner software can
translate into usable laser graphics applications.
A process used primarily for printing and bit-map applications. The galvanometer moves the laser
beam; simultaneously, the laser beam will be modulated.
PC Interface board, which provides the hardware link between the PC and the scanning module. It
also provides I/O for laser control and parts handling.
The basic scanning configuration. The XLR8 consists of two galvanometers; mirrors drive
electronics, a serial interface, and an appropriate flat field lens.
A process primarily used for line drawings. The laser spot is directed to follow the actual lines in
an image. Vector scanning is analogous to the way a pen plotter draws an image. For example, a
pen down command translates to "laser on".
