Enabling the infrared port
Before you use your infrared port to transfer files or to print to an infrared printer, you must
enable the infrared port in the BIOS. Follow these steps to use either the standard infrared driver
or the enhanced driver.
1. Reboot your computer.
2. When you see the HP logo, press F2.
3. Select Advanced.
4. Set IrDA port setting to Enabled.
5. Set Mode to FIR.
6. If DMA channel conflicts with Parallel port DMA channel, change Parallel port Mode to EPP.
7. Select F10 to save the changed values and continue reboot.
8. Adjust the infrared transceiver value.
a. Click Start, Settings, Control Panel, Network.
b. On the Configuration tab, select NSC-PC87338 Fast Infrared Port and click Properties.
c. Select the Advanced tab.
d. Under Property select Infrared Transceiver A, under Value select HP-HSDL-2300, and
click OK twice.
e. Reboot the computer again.

  • Page 3 2. Connect the AC adapter to the OmniBook. 3. Insert the bootable Recovery CD in the CD-ROM drive. 4. Reboot and, when you see the HP logo, press ESC twice. 5. Select the CD-ROM drive as the boot device, press ENTER, and follow the onscreen instructions.
  • Page 4 If so, you need to obtain updated drivers, and they will be posted on the Web at www.hp.com/omnibook. Most users, however, choose to use the default Windows 98 configuration, which disables driver signing.
  • Page 5 ______________________ Checking the build version When you communicate with an HP Support person, you may need to find out what version of the software is installed on your OmniBook XE. You can find information about the build in the file version.inf, which is found in the root directory of your hard disk. (The file is also on the Recovery CD, in the \recover directory.) Double-click on the filename to see the information.
