17 Maintenance

► Clean the discharge chute with a soft brush or
a damp cloth.
► Clean the electrical contacts on the lawn
mower with a paintbrush or a soft brush.
► Clean the ventilation slots with a paintbrush.
► Upend the lawn mower.
► Clean the area around the blade and the blade
with a stick, a soft brush or a damp cloth.

17.1
Removing and Attaching the
Blade
17.1.1
Removing the Blade
► Switch the lawn mower off, pull out the activa‐
tion key and remove the battery.
► Upend the lawn mower.
► Block blade (1) using a piece of wood (2).
► Unscrew bolt (3) in the direction of the arrow
and remove together with the washer.
► Remove blade (4).
► Unscrew bolt (5) in the direction of the arrow
and remove together with the washer.
► Remove blade (1).
► Discard bolts (3 and 5) and the washers.
Use new bolts and washers to attach
blades (1 and 4).

Attaching the Blades
► Switch the lawn mower off, pull out the activa‐
tion key and remove the battery.
► Upend the lawn mower.

► Place new washer (2) on new screw (1).
► Apply Loctite 243 thread locker to the thread
of screw (1).
► Position blade (3) so that the raised areas on
contact area (4) engage in the notches in
blade (3).
► Screw in screw (1) together with washer (2).
► Block blade (3) using a piece of wood (5).
► Tighten screw (1) to 30 Nm +/- 3 Nm.
► Install the second blade.
17.2
Sharpening and Balancing the
Blades
Sharpening and balancing the blades correctly
requires a lot of practice.
STIHL recommends having the blades sharp‐
ened and balanced by a STIHL specialist dealer.
WARNING
■ The cutting edges of the blades are sharp.
This may result in the user cutting themselves.
► Wear work gloves made from resistant
material.
► Switch the lawn mower off, pull out the activa‐
tion key and remove the battery.
► Upend the lawn mower.
► Remove the blades.
► Sharpen the blades. Observe the sharpening
angle and cool the blades,
Bluing of the blades during sharpening is not
permitted.
► Attach the blades.
► If anything is unclear: consult a STIHL special‐
ist dealer.
17.3
Checking the Belt Tension of
the Blade Drive
Have the belt tension of the blade drive checked
by a STIHL specialist dealer once a year.
