To avoid overheating and ensure that the ventilation slots are not blocked, place the WorldCast Equinox on a smooth, hard surface that has at least five cm (two inches) of clearance around the unit and adequate air circulation. If the equipment is placed in a closed area, such as a rack or a case, ensure that proper ventilation is provided and that the internal rack operating temper- ature does not exceed the maximum rated temperature at the location of the WorldCast Equinox.
It is recommended that new users of the WorldCast Equinox should read the full manual before switching it on for the first time, to get a better feel for the functionality and to eliminate any possible area of confusion.
Codec Management System or the Network Management System application. If the equipment supplied does not match the items requested please contact APT or your local dis- tributor immediately and report any shortages. Please do not connect the system to the telecom net- work or apply power to the unit if you are in any doubt about the contents as this could lead to dam- age of the hardware.
(X.21 or IP) as the primary port and the another interface port as the secondary port. If the connection to the primary port fails then the WorldCast Equinox will automatically switch to use the secondary port.
* With front panel option only. The remainder of this chapter outlines how you can quickly connect your WorldCast Equinox and start sending audio. The following chapter describes all of the interfaces, and in more detail. In this chapter we simply cover the basics of getting started.
Caution: These instructions will work only if you are in administrator mode – this is the default setting when the WorldCast Equinox units are shipped from the factory. If you are not in administrator mode then the codec algorithm and bit rate can only be selected from a predefined profile.

WorldCast Equinox - Release 3.1 - user manual – 07/2011 3.9. Codecs and Switches Codecs react in a similar way to all network devices and therefore should not be flooded with background non- related network traffic. The best way to limit traffic is to have a switch (not a hub, or a switch that acts like a hub) communicating with the unit similar to the diagram below.
WorldCast Equinox - Release 3.1 - user manual – 07/2011 4. Unit Temperature It may be necessary to convey this information to APT technical support if seeking technical assistance. The fan speed is related to the temperature of the unit. So if the unit heats up then the speed of the fan (and therefore the amount of air being passed through it) will increase.
WorldCast Equinox - Release 3.1 - user manual – 07/2011 5.5.17. Network Restore Time This option allows you to select the elapsed time between detecting that the primary connection has been re- stored and switching the unit switching back to using it. This is the case whenever you have downloaded the log files and keep the window open. Depending on this setting, the CMS updates the download periodically.
The SIP dialer is the easiest way to setup a SIP call. It is also common across all of the APT product range. On first switch to SIP mode, user will be prompted to enter SIP settings in the configuration browser.
Page 109
The address book is the SIP speed dial list (250 entries), you can enter these here or from the front panel or main NMS. It is also possible to load a SIP speed dial onto a unit using the APT Uploader Utility (separate ap- plication).

You can select X.21, IP, SIP or ISDN as the Primary network connection. Alternatively you can select Standby – this puts the WorldCast Equinox into a standby state where it will not generate any audio traffic or any alarms. You can also select X.21, IP or ISDN as the secondary Backup network connection – or disable the secondary Backup connection.
WorldCast Equinox - Release 3.1 - user manual – 07/2011 You must select whether the selected WorldCast Equinox is operating in Master or Slave mode. Master and slave settings are used for 2 reasons. Firstly this setting selects which codec in a codec pair will control the operation of the connection. If the Primary connection fails the Master attempts calling on the Backup connection.

Select an IP port number – this will be used to transport (send and receive) the audio traffic using RTP/UDP through the network. Note: When connecting to an APT Tokyo codec you must use port 5004 on the Equinox Note: RTCP/UDP traffic is sent on the next highest port. You must enable both ports on any firewalls installed in your network.

It is also possible to setup the automatic port assignment from here along with the other global settings such as QoS, Latency, Port, packet size and direction.
This option allows you to set a value for the dial timeout – the length of time (in seconds) that a WorldCast Equinox will wait for an ISDN call to connect before abandoning the call. The cur- rent value is displayed and you are prompted to enter a new value. Press Ent to complete.
Setup SPIDs: This option will allow you to enter the SPID (Service Profile ID) values for the ISDN lines that the WorldCast Equinox unit is connected to. This is used only of you are using a North Ameri- can network.
WorldCast Equinox - Release 3.1 - user manual – 07/2011 6.5.21. Packet Resequencer There is a packet resequencer included within the WorldCast Equinox. This can be enabled by clicking on the „Use Resequencer‟ check box located in the IP connect tab as shown below. WorldCast Equinox - Release 3.1 - user manual – 07/2011 6.5.22.1 FEC Description The WorldCast Meridian implements a Forward Error Correction (FEC) scheme to protect against packet losses when transporting real-time audio over IP networks. The scheme is com- pliant with SMPTE 2022-1-2007 which is derived from RFC2733.

WorldCast Equinox - Release 3.1 - user manual – 07/2011 Column FECs Fig : Generating FEC packets in the encoder. When FEC and media packets arrive in the receiving equipment, they are again buffered for use in FEC media packet recovery scheme. The figure below shows the worse case packet loss pattern within one frame that could be fixed with a 5×5 FEC scheme.

WorldCast Equinox - Release 3.1 - user manual – 07/2011 Column FECs Fig : frame of decoder media and FEC packets that presents a burst loss of packet information. Running FEC limits the route latency in the Worldcast Meridian. SMPTE restricts the time window in which the FEC packets must be transmitted once created.

WorldCast Equinox - Release 3.1 - user manual – 07/2011 Pressing „OK‟ will initiate the duplex connection. In order for the connection to proceed, the following settings must be the same on the 2 units involved in the duplex call:...
7.1. Backing up an IP Connection Using X.21 When the WorldCast Equinox is configured for a primary IP connection and a secondary backup X.21 connec- tion any break in the primary audio data will force the codecs to establish a connection on the backup X.21 link.
7.2. Backing up an X.21 Connection Using IP When the WorldCast Equinox is configured for a primary X.21 connection and a secondary backup IP connec- tion any break in the primary audio data will force the codecs to establish a connection on the backup IP link.
7.3. Backing up an X.21 Connection Using ISDN When the WorldCast Equinox is configured for a primary X.21 connection and a secondary backup ISDN con- nection any break in the primary audio data will force the codecs to establish a connection on the backup ISDN link.
7.4. Backing up an IP Connection using ISDN When the WorldCast Equinox is configured for a primary IP connection and a secondary backup ISDN connec- tion any break in the primary audio data will force the codecs to establish a connection on the backup ISDN link.
Set the Communications Interface to either X.21, NET or ISDN. Before connecting to IP you must check that the Audio Encoder/Decoder settings are the same and the same algorithm is being used on the WorldCast Equinox – otherwise the connection will fail e.g. algorithm, sample rate, bitrate and mode.
