    5. UNPACKING & COMMISSIONING WARNING: Ensure that the handset cord is positioned so that it cannot become damaged during shower trolley adjustment. CAUTION: Ensure that all transport ties have been cut and removed before using the shower trolley. CAUTION: Charge the battery as often as possible (minimum recommendation: six hours once every three months).

    6. OPERATION 6.1 CASTORS see figures 5-7 WARNING: All castors must be locked when transfering a patient on or off the shower trolley and during bathing operations. CAUTION: Do not attempt to push the shower trolley sideways when the steer castor is in the steer position. CAUTION: Ensure that the steer castor trails the direction of movement.
  • Page 13 6. OPERATION 6.2 ELECTRIC CONTROLS WARNING: Do not operate the shower trolley controls so that moving parts of the shower trolley contact people or surrounding objects. WARNING: When left unattended, remove the battery to ensure no unauthorised use of the shower trolley occurs.
  • Page 14 6. OPERATION 6.2.2 BUTTON OPERATION see figure 10 Adjustment occurs only while a button is pressed. Adjustment will stop when the button is released or the moving actuator reaches the end of its range of adjustment. To raise and lower the patient platform: 1.
  • Page 15 6. OPERATION 6.3 BATTERY AND BATTERY CHARGER see figures 11-13 WARNING: The battery is heavy and should be supported with both hands when releasing from the mount bracket. WARNING: The battery should be charged regularly. Charge the battery when the low level indicator light comes on. WARNING: Before placing a patient onto the shower trolley ensure that the battery is charged and the low battery indicator light on the handset is off.
  • Page 16 6. OPERATION To remove the battery from the shower trolley for charging: 1. Pull down on the battery compartment handle to gain access to the battery (see figure 11). 2. Squeeze the battery release lever to disengage the battery from the mount bracket and lift. The battery will disconnect from the control box (see figure 12).
  • Page 17 6. OPERATION 6.4 DRAIN HOSE see figures 14-15 The drain hose is located at the drain end of the shower trolley and can be stored in the cutaway in the skirt (see figure 14). If needed the hose can be lifted off the floor and placed into the storage hook for better clearance (see figure 14).
  • Page 18 6. OPERATION 6.7 SHOWERING AND BATHING THE PATIENT WARNING: Do not use water above 38°C (100°F) for bathing or showering a patient. Check the water temperature BEFORE any water touches the patient. If a thermometer is unavailable hold your hand above the water to initially check the temperature, then dip your elbow into the water to test.

  • Page 21 7. CLEANING REMEMBER The upholstered tub has a bi-elastic backing fabric with a polyurethane top coating. Soap residue left on the tub surface can degrade the surface. Therefore, care should be taken to flush away all residual soap after use. CAUTION: Failure to follow these recommendations may lead to fabric failure.

    8. PACKING FOR TRANSPORT OR STORAGE To pack the shower trolley for transport or storage: WARNING: Never lift the tub. WARNING: Never use a forklift. CAUTION: Do not leave the shower trolley in direct sunlight. CAUTION: To maximise the life of the tub fabric the shower trolley should be stored with the tub sides down.     Inspection of the shower trolley should be performed annually using the user maintenance checklist (section 10.5). 10.2 AUTHORISED SERVICING All maintenance, servicing, and repairs must be carried out by Howard Wright Limited or an authorised service agent. WARNING: Do not modify the shower trolley or its accessories without the agreement of Howard Wright Limited.
  • Page 25 10. MAINTENANCE & SERVICING 10.4 BATTERY REPLACEMENT The life of the battery will depend on the use that it has had. As a guide, it should be replaced every four years. CAUTION: The battery is of a sealed lead-acid type and should be disposed of safely so as not to cause damage to the environment.
