6.6.7 Clean ing the air fil ter in sert
Al ways wear safety gog gles when main tain ing the
en gine and when us ing com pressed air or pres -
sur ized wa ter spray.
Danger
Dust, fly ing par ti cles, com pressed air, pres sur ized
wa ter or steam can in jure the eyes.
Fail ure to com ply may cause mild to mod er ate in -
jury.
Chang ing the fil ter in sert:
– if a fil ter el e ment or gas ket is dam aged
Attention
– af ter two cleanings
– if there is car bon-laden pre cip i ta tion
– if there is damp or oily soilingif en gine per for -
mance de creases, or
– if the ex haust changes col our.
Never run the en gine with out an air fil ter in sert.
If the mo tor is run in a dusty en vi ron ment, the air fil ter
must be cleaned more of ten.

• Re move the wing nut (1).
• Take off the air fil ter lid (2).
• Re move the wing nut (3).
• Re move the air fil ter (4) and ex ter nal foam el e ment (5).
