Intended use and improper use

• The engine is intended for use in combination with the
machine on which it is installed.
• Any use other than that intended by Valdinoci Luigi S.p.A
and stated in this manual shall be considered improper.
• Valdinoci Luigi S.p.A shall not be liable for any damage
due to changes to the engine that are not indicated in this
manual or carried out by personnel authorised by Valdinoci
Luigi S.p.A.
• Compliance with and total respect of the conditions of use
and safety precautions set out in this manual will help you
avoid accidents or personal injury.

Safety instructions

• The engine has been manufactured according to the
specifications of a machine manufacturer to meet the
essential health and safety requirements set out in
current legislation. Any use of the engine other than that
established and intended by Valdinoci Luigi S.p.A shall be
considered improper use and shall be subject to the relative
consequences.
• The instructions in this manual are intended for the integrator
and shall be part of the technical documentation prepared
for the new complete machine formed by MACHINERY +
PARTLY COMPLETED MACHINERY (endothermic engine
unit).
It is the responsibility of the integrator of the partly completed
machinery to verify:
• the consistency of the command/control system;
• that the safety requirements are met before, during, and
after the stop phase.
The integrator of the partly completed machinery must verify
if:
• the emergency stop function stops the moving parts by
immediate removal of power to the actuators (category 0
stop);
• the emergency stop overrides all other functions and
immediately stops the actuators, without creating additional
hazards.
• Read these instructions thoroughly. Otherwise, serious
hazards could occur to the health and safety of persons
near the machine.
• Upon start-up, make sure that the engine is in a near
horizontal position, unless otherwise specified in the
machine specifications.
• Check the machine stability in order to prevent the risk of
tip-over.
• The engine cannot operate in environments in which there
are flammable materials and/or powders and explosive
atmospheres unless specific measures have been taken that
are clearly indicated and certified for the machine.
• To prevent the risk of fire, a distance of at least one metre
must be kept between the machine and buildings or other
machinery.
• Children and animals must be kept away from the machine
to avoid dangers due to its operation.
• Before performing any operation, thoroughly clean all
of the outer parts of the engine in order to prevent the
accidental introduction of impurities or foreign matters.
Only use water and/or suitable products for cleaning the

SAFETY INFORMATION

• Personnel using or servicing the engine must use the safety
devices and wear suitable personal protective equipment.
• Valdinoci Luigi S.p.A accepts no objective or subjective
liability if the instructions in this manual are not adhered to
and applied.
• Valdinoci Luigi S.p.A cannot anticipate every reasonably
foreseeable misuse that can lead to a potential danger.
engine. When using pressure or steam cleaning devices,
keep the nozzle at a distance of at least 200 mm from the
surface to be cleaned. Do not direct the high pressure jet at
electrical parts, cable joints, and sealing rings.Thoroughly
clean the area around/over the engine, following the
instructions provided by the machine manufacturer.
• Fuel and oil are highly flammable and must only be filled with
the engine off. Before starting the engine, ensure all fuel
leaks have been cleaned up.
• Make sure that any sound absorbing panels and the ground
on which the machine is resting are free of any fuel residues.
• Fuel vapours are highly toxic. Refuelling must be carried out
outdoors or in well-ventilated areas.
• Do not smoke or use open flames during refuelling.
• During operation the engine surface reaches potentially
dangerous temperatures. Avoid any contact, especially with
the exhaust system.
• Before carrying out any operation on the engine, stop it and
allow it to cool to ambient temperature.
• Always open the radiator or expansion tank cap carefully,
wearing protective clothing and goggles.
• The liquid cooling circuit is under pressure. Do not perform
any checks until the engine has reached the ambient
temperature.
• Where there is an electric fan, do not approach it if the engine
is hot because it could start operating even if the engine is off.
• Oil draining must be performed with the engine hot and
therefore special care is required in order to avoid burns.
Avoid skin contact with the oil as it can cause health damage.
• During operations that require access to moving parts of the
engine and/or removal of guards protecting rotating parts,
isolate electrical energy by disconnecting the negative
cable (-) from the battery to prevent shorts or the accidental
activation of the starter.
• Check belt tightness only with the engine off.
• Carefully close the tank cap after each refill. Do not
completely fill the tank but leave some room for fuel
expansion.
• Only start the engine following the specific instructions in the
engine and/or machine manual. Do not use auxiliary starting
aids not originally installed on the machine (e.g., Startpilot).
• Before starting up, remove any tools that have been used
for engine and/or machine maintenance and make sure that
all protections, that may have been removed, are correctly
mounted.
