Important safety notice
Appropriate servicing and repair are extremely important to ensure safe operation of the machine.
The shop manuals describe the effective and safe servicing and repair methods recommended by
Komatsu. Some of the servicing and repair methods require use of special tools designed by
Komatsu for special purposes.

1. Precautions peculiar to hybrid machine
1) Hybrid mark
k
1. This machine is equipped with the
hybrid system consisting of an electric
motor and a diesel engine. The above
Hybrid mark is attached to each expla-
nation peculiar to the hybrid system
(contents different from those for the
common diesel engine machine). Be
sure to read the Operation and Mainte-
nance Manual, "Introduction", "Out-
line of hybrid system" (Section 1),
"Safety", "Safety Precautions on Safe-
ty Indicators" (Section 2) and this
Shop Manual, "Handling of hybrid de-
vices and high-voltage wiring" and
"Items related to hybrid system" in
Structured and function to understand
the hybrid system.

2. The persons who engage in the in-
stalling or removing work of the hybrid
devices (motor-generator, capacitor,
inverter, swing electric motor) must
follow the local Industrial Safety and
Health Law concerning electricity.

3. Never disassemble the hybrid devic-
es mentioned above. The hybrid devic-
es and high-voltage wiring (orange
color) must be replaced by the unit.

4. When handling hybrid devices, be
sure to discharge the capacitor com-
pletely first. For details, see this man-
ual, "Handling of hybrid devices and
high-voltage wirings", "Discharge pro-
cedure for capacitor" or Testing and
adjusting, "Discharge" of capacitor".

5. When handling the hybrid devices
or high-voltage wirings, be sure to fol-
low "Handling of hybrid devices and
high-voltage wirings".

dure to look into the charge level in-
spection window at the contactor box
above the capacitor and to check that
the LED display for capacitor charge
state indicates "UNCHARGED". Before
discharging capacitor, check display
function of this LED according to the
following procedure.
1] Both of two LEDs are lit 1 minute after
engine is started.
2] One LED is lit after turning the key to
the OFF position.
(One LED goes out by turning the key
to the OFF position.)
LED display function to show capaci-
tor charge state may be defective if the
above cannot be confirmed even when
any failure is not occurring in hybrid
system. In this case, replace the ca-
pacitor according to the following
"General precautions".
2. General precautions

Inappropriate handling creates an ex-
treme danger. Read and understand what
is described in the Operation and Mainte-
nance Manual before operating the ma-
chine. Read and understand what is
described in this manual before starting
work.
1) Before performing any greasing or repairs,
read all the safety labels stuck to the
machine. For the locations of the safety
labels and detailed explanation of precau-
tions, see the Operation and Maintenance
Manual.
