    1. Introduction About this manual This manual contains the Instructions for Use of the W&H sterilizers VA131-17 and VA131-22, hereinafter referred to as LISA 17 and LISA 22. All drawings, images and texts contained in this manual are the property of the manufacturer. All rights reserved.
  • Page 5 Introduction Qualifications of the users There are two types of users who may operate the sterilizer: The ADMINISTRATOR (ADM) is the head of the clinic/practice, who is legally responsible for the efficiency of the hygiene protocol in place as well as the sterilization process. He/she is also responsible for the USERS’ training and the correct operation and maintenance of the equipment.

    4. Installation, programming and setup Placement Place the sterilizer on a flat and level surface, far from sources of heat and from flammable materials. Do not place the sterilizer so that it is difficult to open the service door and operate on the controls behind it. Tray rack Insert the rack into the sterilizer chamber, align it at the center/bottom of the chamber and push it gently into position until it clicks. The visual indicator on the mains switch turns green and the CYCLE SELECTION screen (HOME screen) (see next page) appears. Energy management: the SLEEP mode In the SLEEP mode the display remains dark and the sterilizer chamber is no longer heated to save energy.

  • Page 24 Initial setup Initial setup Before using the sterilizer please program important parameters such as date, time, language, display backlight and contrast, sound, energy management and sterilizer name.   • Page 25 Connection to the LAN Connection via Ethernet Use a standard Ethernet cable to connect the port on the rear of the sterilizer to the Ethernet socket on the wall. Switch ON the sterilizer. The sterilizer connects automatically to the LAN after installation. Two IP configuration modes can be set - dynamic configuration: this is the default option and is applicable to most LANs.
  • Page 26 Connection to the LAN (static IP) Skip this step if your network supports dynamic IP To switch to static IP do as follows: MENU – SETTINGS – CONNECTIVITY – ETHERNET.   • Page 27 User authentication From the CYCLE SELECTION screen (HOME screen), select: MENU – TRACEABILITY – USER MANAGEMENT. Choose your user name and key the PIN code to log in. If you log in as the ADMINISTRATOR, you may create and delete users, reset the PIN code of a user (the initial value of all PINs, after being created or reset, is 0000, and must be changed by the user), change your own PIN code.
  • Page 28 User Management (ADMINISTRATOR only) From the CYCLE SELECTION screen (HOME screen), select: MENU – TRACEABILITY – USER MANAGEMENT and log in as the ADMINISTRATOR. To add a new user: Touch this field to type the new user ID (the keyboard screen appears). Select this option if you want to give the administrator authority to the new user.

  • Page 30 Pin Code Management To change your PIN code: From the CYCLE SELECTION screen (HOME screen), select: MENU – TRACEABILITY – USER MANAGEMENT and log in with your own PIN code. Select the option CHANGE YOUR PIN CODE. This activates the numeric keyboard: enter your new PIN code and confirm. NOTE If you have ADMINISTRATOR authority, you will see other icons in addition to this one.
  • Page 31 Traceability options (ADMINISTRATOR only) As the ADMINISTRATOR, in the TRACEABILITY screen you may access other traceability settings. From the CYCLE SELECTION screen (HOME screen), select: MENU – TRACEABILITY and log in with your own PIN code, then select USER TRACEABILITY OPTIONS. Enable and disable the identification options by touching the relevant buttons.
  • Page 32 Cycle Exclusion (ADMINISTRATOR only) The ADMINISTRATOR can hide / unhide a cycle program to users. From the CYCLE SELECTION screen (HOME screen), select: MENU – SETTINGS– CYCLE – CYCLE EXCLUSION. NOTE you will have to enter the ADMINISTRATOR's password). Enable or disable the cycles that appear on the CYCLE SELECTION screen (HOME screen) by touching the relevant switch icon.
  • Page 33 Printer setup This menu permits to select the model of cycle report printer connected. From the CYCLE SELECTION screen (HOME screen), select: MENU – ACCESSORIES – PRINTER. A selection screen opens, select the model of the printer connected from the list. For a typical cycle report printout, see ANNEX 8.
  • Page 34 Label printer setup Select MENU – ACCESSORIES – LABEL PRINTER. It is possible that an activation key code is requested. Enter the code, CONFIRM and proceed. Choose between LOCAL PRINTER (if the printer is connected to the sterilizer) and SHARED PRINTER (if the printer is connected to another sterilizer in the network).
  • Page 35 Shared label printer To select a shared printer, go to the sterilizer to which the printer is physically connected (the sterilizer must be ON and no cycle shall be running). From the CYCLE SELECTION screen (HOME screen), select MENU – INFO. Scroll the pages and take note of the IP address (Ethernet or Wi-Fi, depending on the LAN connection).
  • Page 36 Label printing options To set the label printer options, select MENU – TRACEABILITY – LABEL PRINTER (This menu is available only if a label printer is properly configured). For a typical label layout, see ANNEX 9. AUTOMATIC PRINTING: if activated, a fixed number of labels will be printed after a successful (*) sterilization cycle.
  • Page 37 USB pen drive Lisa sterilizers are equipped with a digital cycle data recording system. All data are recorded on the removable/rewritable USB pen drive. For details about the data that are saved and the file formats, see Chapter 7 – CYCLE HISTORY. The USB connection for the pen drive is located in the front, behind the service door.
  • Page 38 Remote data storage If connected to a LAN, the sterilizer can record the cycle reports on a specific location in the network. Cycle reports are saved in HTML format files (See Chapter 7 – CYCLE HISTORY). From the CYCLE SELECTION screen (HOME screen), select MENU –...
  • Page 39 Remote data storage: settings From the CYCLE SELECTION screen (HOME screen), select MENU – SETTINGS – REMOTE DATA STORAGE – SETTINGS. Another screen (see below) is displayed. The switch-shaped icon enables the remote storage. Touch these fields to enter the path and the other settings to reach the location where the files have to be saved. NOTES: The path consists of the name of the shared folder, followed by the sub-folders, if any (and NOT the full Windows path).
  • Page 40 Remote data storage: test From the CYCLE SELECTION screen (HOME screen), select MENU – SETTINGS – REMOTE DATA STORAGE – TEST. A sequence of tests is automatically performed (see below). The sterilizer attempts to access the specified location to check if the parameters entered are valid. Positive tests are marked with a green checkmark.

    5. The available sterilization cycles In total there are four sterilization cycles available, all of them complying with the European Standard EN13060: three B-type cycles; one S-type cycle.     6. Running a sterilization cycle Place the sterilization load in the sterilization chamber and close the door. See ANNEXES 2 and 3 on how to properly prepare and place the load. Switch the sterilizer ON and wait the sterilizer is initialized (the CYCLE SELECTION/HOME screen is displayed). Select a cycle by touching the relevant icon.

  • Page 48 The INFO screen INFO screen While a cycle is in progress, you can view the main cycle parameters in real time. On the CYCLE IN PROGRESS screen, touch the INFO icon. The list is made of several pages. Scroll them with BACK and NEXT. The INFO screen is displayed.
  • Page 49 End of a sterilization cycle When a cycle is successfully finished, the CYCLE COMPLETED message appears on the screen. To open the door,touch the OPEN icon. Wait the door to unlock, then open the chamber door. If an error message appears at the end of the cycle, consult Chapter 8 (TROUBLESHOOTING) and, if the problem persists, call for technical service.

  • Page 51 Customization of cycle settings ECO-DRY The ECO-DRY feature (represented by the icon ) is active whenever you initiate a type B sterilization cycle. The feature is designed to provide the shortest possible cycle times, by adjusting the drying time to the load. This means the smaller the load, the faster the cycle, thus eliminating the need for selecting a quick or a flash cycle.

The drying time is automatically adjusted to the shortest possible for the total amount of load, but enough to ensure perfect drying of standard loads.   • Page 53 Customization of cycle settings - delayed cycle start You may delay the start of a cycle (e.g., if you want to load the sterilizer in the evening and run standard sterilization cycle early the next morning before office hours). It is possible to set both the date and the time in which the selected cycle(s) will start. Load the chamber, close the chamber door, and choose the cycle you want to launch.

    7. Cycle history To access the cycle history: from the CYCLE SELECTION screen (HOME screen), select MENU – TRACEABILITY – CYCLE HISTORY. This displays the whole list of cycles, identified by number, name, date and time. NOTE: the sterilizer stores in memory the summarized reports of the last 400 cycles in HTML format, and the analytical reports of the last 50 cycles in SCL format (all parameters recorded every second).

    8. Maintenance Before carrying out any maintenance on the sterilizer, switch the unit OFF and remove the mains cable. During any maintenance work, all health, safety, cross-infection and cross-contamination protocols must be followed. Before accessing the chamber and the connected parts, be sure that the sterilizer is cold. Follow the instructions in this chapter when carrying out any maintenance on the sterilizer.
  • Page 59 Resetting the maintenance counters The sterilizer monitors the wear of consumables by counting the number of cycles executed since the last replacement. When the number of cycles is close to the maximum, a pre-alert about the concerned consumable is ..displayed.

Leave the drain tube attached to one of the drain quick connectors. Lift the cover of the tank to gain access to the tanks. Tap with your fingers on the rubber membrane to remove any condensate.
  • Page 65 800-cycle maintenance Replacing the door seal Fully open the chamber door. Pull out the used door seal by hand (easy if seal and fingers are dry). Carefully clean the seal seat and the chamber face side with a damp, lint-free cloth. Moisten the new seal with water.
  • Page 66 4000 cycle/5 year general check and service Regular service is imperative to ensure continuous and effective operation of the sterilizer. It is recommended to carry out a general service every 4000 cycles or five years by an authorized service technician. The service includes replacement of consumables and other important internal components, a check of the entire unit with special care for the safety systems, and cleaning of areas and components that cannot be accessed by the user.

    9. Troubleshooting, Errors, Messages and Alerts During the sterilization cycle, the sterilizer is continuously monitored by a sophisticated control system. If an anomaly is detected, the cycle is aborted automatically, and the sterilizer starts a reset phase. The following information is displayed: Error symbol Error code Warning message:...

  • Page 72 Resetting the safety thermostat The sterilizer is fitted with a safety thermostat to prevent overheating. If the safety thermostat operates because of too high temperatures, the Error 240 or a timeout error is displayed. The thermostat must be reset manually. Proceed as follows: - Switch the sterilizer OFF and remove the mains cable.
  • Page 73 Battery-operated door opening tool The door locking system is electrically activated. In case the door remains locked due to a black-out or an electric fault, an auxiliary unlocking procedure is available. Warning! The following procedure should be used only if necessary and only when NO RESIDUAL PRESSURE IS IN THE CHAMBER and the sterilizer has completely cooled down.

    ANNEX 2. Maintenance of dental handpieces External disinfection This procedure reduces the risk of infection during cleaning and maintenance of the instrument. Wear protective gloves during disinfection. Refer to the instructions of the instrument manufacturer. Avoid using abrasive disinfectants (pH-value 2.5 – 9; no chlorine based disinfectants). We recommend the use of disinfectant wipes rather than spray disinfection.

    ANNEX 3. Sterilization load preparation Cleaning the instruments Clean all instruments thoroughly prior to sterilization. If possible, clean instruments immediately after use; always follow the instrument manufacturer ‘s instructions. Remove all traces of disinfectants and detergents.     ANNEX 4. Bowie and Dick test Description The Bowie & Dick (B&D) test device is used to validate the sterilizer performance for textile load sterilization. It is made of several sheets of paper wrapped in a small packet in the middle of which there is a chemical heat-sensitive indicator sheet. How to carry out the test The test must be performed in an empty chamber (EN13060) without load but with the standard chamber accessories (chamber rack and trays) mounted.

    ANNEX 5. Helix test Description The Helix test device is used to validate the sterilizer performance for hollow items. It consists of a 1,500 mm long tube that is open on one side and closed with a capsule on the other side. A chemical indicator strip is placed inside of the capsule.

    ANNEX 6. Vacuum test Description The vacuum test is designed to validate the sterilizer performance in terms of: • Efficiency of the vacuum pump; • Tightness of the pneumatic circuit. It consists of a vacuum phase, followed by a stabilization period of 5 minutes and a testing period of 10 minutes. During the 10-minute testing period the internal pressure is monitored.
