MODEM SETUP AND COMMANDS

The operating system and application software
that is factory installed detects the modem
characteristics and provides the necessary com-
mand strings to operate the modem. The inter-
nal modem operation is controlled by generic
AT commands from the operating system and
application software. The standard long form
result codes may, in some cases, be displayed on
your screen to keep you informed of the actions
of your modem. The operating system and
application software may suppress display of
the result codes. Examples of result codes are:
T r o u b l e s h o o t i n g
OK
NO CARRIER
NO DIALTONE
CONNECT 56000
(Connection complete at 56,000 bps.)
ERROR
FAX
RING (This means an incoming call.)
BUSY
NO ANSWER
When using the internal modem with applica-
tions which are not factory installed see the
application documentation.

RESTORING YOUR PRE-INSTALLED
SOFTWARE FROM CD-ROM
To restore your pre-installed software from the
Recovery CD-ROM follow the instructions with
the CD-ROM.
Remember that you must set the B oot menu
in the BIOS setup utility to CD-ROM Drive,
or use the Esc key during boot-up sequence
to change the setting. The BIOS loads the
CD-ROM,not the hard disk. (See pages 54 and
94-95 or ways to set the operating system source.)
C A U T I O N
User data and user installed applications
can not be recovered from the Recovery
CD-ROM.
