Recording
Problem
A vertical light bar appears on the
screen.
Viewfinder picture is blurred.
Audio is not recorded.
Audio is recorded in a very low
level.
Playback
Problem
Pressing the playback button does
not start playback.
Tape is running, but image will not
appear on the TV screen.
While playing back a tape recorded
in HDV standard there are brief
stops in the playback picture.
While connected to a TV or monitor
with the COMPONENT OUT (D-)
Terminal all on-screen displays are
turned off.
Memory Card Operations
Problem
Memory card cannot be inserted.
Memory card cannot be recorded.
Memory card cannot be played
back.
Image cannot be erased.

" flashes red.
Others
Lenses with built-in image
stabilizer: Detected air bubbles
inside the lens.
Cause
Bright light in a dark scene may
cause a vertical light bar (smear) to
appear. This is not a malfunction.
Viewfinder is not adjusted.
The INPUT SELECT switch is not set
to the correct position.
The REC LEVEL switch is set to M,
and recording level is set too low.
Microphone connected to the XLR
terminal needs to be powered by the
phantom power.
Microphone attenuator is turned on.
Cause
Camcorder is turned off, or is not set
to VCR/PLAY mode.
Cassette is not loaded.
Video heads are dirty.
You attempted to play back or dub
copyright protected tape.

The [HD DOWN-CONV] option is set
to [ON] or the [DISPLAYS] option is
set to [OFF <PLAYBK>].
Cause
Memory card was not facing the
correct direction.
No memory card.
Memory card is full.
Memory card is not initialized.
The folder and file numbers have
reached their maximum value.
The POWER dial or TAPE/CARD
switch are not set to the correct
position.
Image is protected.
Card error occurred.
Sometimes air bubbles may form inside the lens in airplanes or on high
mountains. This is not a malfunction. The air bubbles disappear in about 1
week.
Solution
Record in the Av mode with F5.6–
F8.0.
Adjust the viewfinder with the
dioptric adjustment lever.
Set the INPUT SELECT switch to
the correct position.
Adjust the audio level correctly.
Set the +48V switch to ON.
Set the MIC ATT. switch to OFF.
Solution
Set the camcorder to VCR/PLAY
mode.
Load a cassette.
Clean the video heads.
Stop playback/dubbing.
Clean the video heads.
Set the [HD DOWN-CONV] option
to [OFF] or set the [DISPLAYS]
option to [ON].
Solution
Turn the memory card over and
reinsert it.
Insert a memory card.
Replace the memory card or erase
images.
Initialize the memory card.
Set [FILE NOS.] to [RESET] and
insert a new memory card.
Set the POWER dial to VCR/PLAY
and the TAPE/CARD switch to
Cancel the protection.
Turn off the camcorder. Remove
and reinsert the memory card.
Initialize the memory card if flashing
persists.
