FIELD OF APPLICATION

"Capsules are solid dosage forms with hard or soft shells. They are of various shapes and sizes, and contain
a single dose of one or more active ingredients. They are intended for oral administration" (Italian Official
Pharmacopoeia– FU XII ed).
Hard capsules which are used in Galenics are suitable for compounding since the required technology is
simple and economical, and does not need any particular preliminary research.
The capsule consists of two prefabricated cylindrical sections, a cap and a body, that fit together. One end
of each section is rounded and closed, and the other is open. The lower part or body is the container, the
upper part functions as cap.
Their appearance can be, respectively: colourless and transparent; coloured and transparent or opaque.
