Disable TSO on Linux nodes with X710 NIC

Results
The network configuration on the SLES node is complete. Next perform disk
configuration procedures.
On Linux RHEL v7.2 and v7.3 nodes with the X710 NIC, disable TSO (TCP
Segmentation Offload) to prevent a known issue that can cause a reset under load.
Before you begin
Ensure that you know:
The IP address of the BMC (iDRAC) port
l
The username and password for the BMC (iDRAC) portal (default username and
l
password are root and password)
The default NIC in VxFlex Ready Node servers is Intel X520. The first part of this
procedure determines if the node has the X710 NIC. If it does not, you can skip the
rest of the procedure.
Procedure
1. Log in to the iDRAC management console:
a. From a browser, go to http:// <BMC/iDRAC_IP_address>
b. Type the user name and password, then click Login.
2. Determine if the NIC is X710:
a. Select Hardware
If the NIC Slot or Integrated NIC is X710, continue. Otherwise, skip to the
end of this procedure.
3. In the Integrated Remote Access Controller section, verify that the firmware
version is 17.5.12_A00. If not update it:
a. Download the firmware:
Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=XJW5M
b. From the iDRAC Settings
downloaded file to upgrade the firmware.
4. Update the driver:
For RHEL v7.3, skip to the next step.
a. Download the kmod-i40e-1.5.10_k-2.el7_2.x86_64 (or later) driver
package:
https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHEA-2016-1902.html
b. Run the file to upgrade the driver.
5. Use an ethtool command to disable TSO:
ethtool -K em2 tso off gso off
em2 is the NIC name

To make this setting persistent, add the command to a script that will run after
reboot.
