Battery electrolyte level
Check every 200 hours or at least once every season
Oil change in compressor
Run the engine until warm. Stop the engine and re-
move the oil dipstick. Remove the plug and let the
oil run out. Refit the plug and fill upp with oil. Con-
cerning quality and capacity see Technical Data.
Turbocharger
Check the airtube and connections for leakage.
Check the airtube when the engine is running.
Whistling or hissing sounds are signs of leakage.
Leakage can also be detected by brushing soapwa-
ter on suspected spots on the pressure side bet-
ween the turbocharger and the engine. Tighten ho-
seclamps or replace the airtube if necessary. If
there are problems with the turbocharger contact an
authorized Volvo Penta dealer.
The level should be 5-10 mm above the cell plates
in the battery. Top up with distilled water when ne-
cessary.
NOTE! Certain maintenance-free batteries have
special instructions that must be followed.
WARNING! Risk of explosion. No naked fla-
mes or sparks! Electrolyte can causeperso-
nal injury. If it gets into the eyes, rinse with
plenty of water. Obtain medical assistance
immediately!
Exhaust pipe, Inspection

The exhaust pipe in outboard drive installations
must be checked annually for corrosion damage
between the hose (1) and the pipe (2).
WARNING! Risk of water entry. Check the
exhaust pipe with the boat hauled up on land.
If there is considerable corrosion damage, the
pipe must be repaired or replaced by a new
one.
To check: Undo clamp (3) and the two lower clamps
which hold hose (1). Lift up the elbow (4) to undo the
hose from the pipe. Check the mating surface (5). If
there is considerable corrosion damage, the pipe
must be repaired or replaced by a new one.
