DRILLING METAL

(ROTARY DRILLING MODE)
For maximum performance, use high-speed
steel bits for drilling metal or steel, and set the
mode selector to the rotary drilling mode .
a. When drilling metals, use light oil on the drill
bit to keep it from overheating. The oil will
prolong the life of the bit and increase the
drilling action.
b. Begin drilling at a very low speed to prevent
the bit from slipping off the starting point.
DRILLING TILE (ROTARY DRILLING MODE)
For maximum performance, use high-speed
steel bits for drilling in tile, and set the mode
selector to the rotary drilling mode.
a. When drilling holes in tile, practice on a
scrap piece to determine the best speed and
pressure. Set the tool to rotary drilling mode.
b. Begin drilling at a very low speed to prevent
the bit from slipping off the starting point.
NOTICE: Fig. 17 shows some tips for different
drilling operations.
DUST EXTRACTION
To reduce exposure to silica dust when
hammer-drilling in concrete and masonry, use
this rotary hammer with FLEX Dust Extraction
Attachment model FT151 connected to FLEX
Dust Extractor / Vacuum model FX5221 (both
sold separately) or other dust extractor with
99% or greater efficiency.
Refer to the manual for FLEX FT151 for more
information.
Use a HEPA-filtered dust extractor / vacuum
when cleaning holes.
(FIG. 17)
c. Maintain a speed and a pressure that allow
cutting without overheating the bit. Applying
too much pressure will:
Overheat the tool.
Wear the bearings.
Bend or burn bits.
Produce off-center or irregularly shaped holes.
