before starting to use the machine (see Fig.
4).
For use in the open air you must only use
extension cables certified for the purpose.
Tips on use
The hedge trimmer can be used not only for
trimming hedges but for trimming shrubs and
bushes as well.
For optimum trimming performance, guide the
blade teeth at an angle of approx. 15° to the
hedge (see Fig. 5).
Since the blades cut on both sides and run
in opposite directions to each other, you can
trim in both directions (see Fig. 6).
It is recommended to tie a guide line of string
or the like along the hedge so that you cut the
hedge to a level height. Cut off all branches
which protrude beyond the guide line (see
Figure 7). Ensure that the blades do not come
into contact with the string.
The sides of the hedge should be trimmed
with arc-type movements from below upwards
(see Fig. 8).
Electric brake
For safety reasons, the equipment is supplied
with an electric brake system that stops the
cutting blades as quickly as possible after the
equipment has been switched off . The equipment
may therefore emit an odor or generate sparks
when it is switched off . This has no infl uence on
the future operational performance or safety of
the equipment. Please avoid switching the equip-
ment on and off more often than necessary.

8. Cleaning, maintenance and
ordering of spare parts
Danger!
Always pull out the mains power plug before star-
ting any cleaning work.
8.1 Cleaning
Keep all safety devices, air vents and the
motor housing free of dirt and dust as far as
possible. Wipe the equipment with a clean
cloth or blow it with compressed air at low
pressure.
We recommend that you clean the device
immediately each time you have finished
using it.
Clean the equipment regularly with a moist
cloth and some soft soap. Do not use
cleaning agents or solvents; these could at-
tack the plastic parts of the equipment. Ensu-
re that no water can seep into the device. The
ingress of water into an electric tool increases
the risk of an electric shock.
8.2 Carbon brushes
In case of excessive sparking, have the carbon
brushes checked only by a qualifi ed electrician.
Danger! The carbon brushes should not be rep
laced by anyone but a qualifi ed electrician.
8.3 Maintenance
The cutters should be cleaned and lubricated
at regular intervals in order to ensure best
performance at all times. Remove deposits
with a brush and apply a thin film of oil (see
Figure 9).
There are no parts inside the equipment
which require additional maintenance.
