8.0 K-FACTOR ISSUE D PENDENT (SIN G1140) AND UPRIGHT (SIN G1136) SPRINKLERS
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The 8.0 K-Factor (17/32 inch orifice),
Issue D Quartzoid Pendent and Up-
right Sprinklers with 3/4 inch NPT con-
nection (Ref. Figure A) are very extra
high and ultra high temperature rated
automatic sprinklers of the frangible
bulb type. They are "standard re-
sponse - standard spray sprinklers"
intended for use in fire sprinkler sys-
tems designed in accordance with the
standard installation rules recognized
by the applicable Listing or Approval
agency (e.g., UL Listing is based on
NFPA 13 requirements). The Pendent
and Upright Sprinklers all produce a
hemispherical water distribution pat-
tern below the deflector.
APPROVALS AND STANDARDS
Laboratory listings and approvals for
the 8.0 K-Factor, Issue D Pendent and
Upright Sprinklers with 3/4 inch NPT
connection are given in Table A.

and Upright Sprinklers with 3/4 inch
NPT connection described herein
must be installed and maintained in
compliance with this document, as
well as applicable standards of the
National Fire Protection Association,
in addition to the standards of any
other authorities having jurisdiction.
Failure to do so may impair the integ-
rity of these devices.

The owner is responsible for main-
taining their fire protection system
and devices in proper operating con-
dition. The installing contractor or
manufacturer should be contacted
relative to any questions.
Installation of Issue D Sprinklers in
recessed escutcheons will void all
sprinkler warranties, as well as pos-
sibly void the sprinkler’s Approvals
and/or Listings.
TECHNICAL DATA
The 8.0 K-Factor Issue D Pendent
and Upright Sprinklers with 3/4 inch
NPT connection are rated for use at a
maximum service pressure of 175 psi
(12,1 bar) and they are available in the
temperature ratings and finishes indi-
cated in Table A.
The flow "Q" in GPM (LPM) as deter-
mined by the following formula:

where the nominal discharge coeffi-
cient "K" equals 8.0 (115,2); and, "p"
equals the residual flowing pressure in
psi (bar).
Table A indicates the frame color code
and bulb liquid color as a function of
temperature rating.
INSTALLATION
NOTES
Do not install any bulb type sprinkler
if the bulb is cracked or there is a loss

of liquid from the bulb. With the
sprinkler held horizontal, a small air
bubble should be present. The diame-
ter of the air bubble is approximately
1/4 inch (6,4 mm).
A leak tight 3/4 inch NPT sprinkler
joint should be obtained with a torque
of 10 to 20 ft.lbs. (13,4 to 26,8 Nm). A
maximum of 30 ft. lbs. (40,7 Nm) of
torque is to be used to install the
sprinklers. Higher levels of torque
may distort the sprinkler inlet with
consequent leakage or impairment of
the sprinkler.
The Issue D Sprinklers must be in-
stalled in accordance with the follow-
ing instructions.
Step 1. Upright sprinklers must be in-
stalled in the upright position and pen-
dent sprinklers must be installed in the
pendent position. The deflector is to be
parallel to the ceiling or roof, as appli-
cable.
Step 2. With pipe thread sealant ap-
plied, hand tighten the sprinkler into

the sprinkler fitting.
Step 3. Tighten the sprinkler into the
sprinkler fitting using only the W-Type
11 Sprinkler Wrench (Ref. Figure B).
Issue D Sprinklers must be maintained
and serviced in accordance with the
following instructions:
