Wire functions are as follows:
Black Wire:
Negative. Connect to either the battery negative terminal or a suitable chassis point.
Red Wire:
Power. Switch to battery positive to operate the module. Must be powered through the fuse, located as close to the
battery terminal as possible.
Mounting Position
Ensure that the mounting position selected is in accordance with national and local legal requirements. The light from the beacon should be visible
from any point at a reasonable distance from the vehicle. The beacon base should be parallel with the ground and fitted to the flattest part of the
vehicle roof, on the longitudinal centre line.
If radio equipment is fitted to the vehicle, a MINIMUM distance of 500mm between the beacon and the antenna is required.
Electronic Compatibility (EMC)
This product is approved to ECE Regulation 10-04 (EMC). However, it is good practice to route product supply cables away from sensitive cables
(eg. Radio, aerials, anti-lock braking systems etc). If this is not possible, cross cables at right angles.
3 Bolt and 1 Bolt Beacons
Chose a surface that meets the mounting position requirements.
Drill holes in the vehicle panel using the template as a guide.
The 1 Bolt beacon requires only one 12.7mm diameter hole.
Pass the cable through the hole in the vehicle panel and secure the beacon in place.
Tighten fixings to recommended torque figure shown on the template.
Disconnect the battery before wiring up the beacon.
This beacon should be connected using cables of not less than 0.5 mm² cross sectional area.
Connect the red cable to a switched, positive supply protected by a fuse rated at 3 Amps.
Connect the black cable to the vehicle negative (earth).
Plug-in Beacons
Push the beacon fully onto adaptor socket and tighten wing-nut using hand pressure only. If not fitted, locate the adaptor socket (part number 13109
series) in a position that meets the mounting requirements. The beacon should be connected using cables of not less than 1 mm² cross sectional
area. Connect the centre contact of the adaptor socket to a switched, positive supply, protected by a fuse rated at 3
Amps. Connect the body of the adaptor socket to the vehicle negative (earth).
Magnetic Beacons
The vehicle panel must be of steel construction and covered only with the manufacturers normal paint finish. The area for mounting must be dry and
clean. This beacon relies on the force of the magnet to hold it in position on the vehicle.
The magnetic beacons have been wind tunnel tested to establish the wind speed at which they may become detached. However, Because of
environmental conditions such as cross winds, rain, snow and ice, Britax apply a 3:1 safety factor and would recommend that the beacon is not
used at vehicle speeds in excess of the maximum stated on the product label.
The cable assembly is provided with a plug to insert into the cigar lighter socket mounted within the vehicle. The
plug can also be fitted into a DIN 72591 single socket by removing the adaptor sleeve.
