Storing Your Motorcycle

If you store your motorcycle outdoors, you should
consider using a full-body motorcycle cover.
If you won't be riding for an extended period, follow
these guidelines:
Wash your motorcycle and wax all painted surfaces
(except mat painted surfaces). Coat chrome pieces
with rust-inhibiting oil.
Lubricate the drive chain (page 31).
Place your motorcycle on a maintenance stand
and position a block so that both tyres are off the
ground.
After rain, remove the body cover and allow the
motorcycle to dry.
Remove the battery (page 35) to prevent discharge.
Charge the battery in a shaded, well-ventilated
area.
If you leave the battery in place, disconnect the
negative (–) terminal to prevent discharge.
After removing your motorcycle from storage, inspect
all maintenance items required by the Maintenance
Schedule.

Transporting Your Motorcycle

If your motorcycle needs to be transported, it should
be carried on a motorcycle trailer or a flatbed truck
or trailer that has a loading ramp or lifting platform,
and motorcycle tie-down straps. Never try to tow your
motorcycle with a wheel or wheels on the ground.
