9.2 Solution table

Problem
Ocean does not turn on
Ocean turns off as soon as it is
turned on
Ocean turns on, but does not
receive signals
During reception, you hear con-
tinual background noise
You are unsuccessful in esta-
blishing contact with your party
Reception is broken and/or
with noise
Battery life is short
Logical
malfunction
(impro-
per symbols on the display,
blocking of functions, etc.)

Possible Cause
The batteries are not charged and/or are not correctly
inserted
The batteries have lost their charge
The antenna is incorrectly connected
The volume is too low
The monitor function was accidentally left active
Incorrect selection of marine channel or local band
Signal is extremely weak
Your party is too far away and/or transceiver antenna is
shielded by obstacles in the direction of your party
Other users are using the same radio channel
Ocean is positioned too close to other interference devi-
ces (televisions, computers, transmitters, etc.)
Excessive use of display backlighting
Excessive use of transmission
Memory effect is occurring with the batteries
Incorrect setting brought on by electrical disturbance
Solution
Ensure the batteries are charged and correctly inserted
in the radio
If the batteries are alkaline (non-rechargeable), substitute
them; otherwise, charge your NiMH batteries.
Check antenna connection at SMA connector
Adjust volume level
Deactivate the monitor function
Check your channel and band
Temporarily deactivate squelch using the Monitor func-
tion
Move closer to your party and/or move the transceiver to
a less shielded area
Check the radio traffic on the selected channel and chan-
ge channels if necessary
Move Ocean away from the interference devices
Use less display backlighting
Try to reduce transmission times and/or use low tran-
smission power
Eliminate memory effect
Reset your radio
