2.2.1 Fire Hazard
Mechanical damage to the energy storage module can cause internal as well as external short
circuits. These lead to high compensating currents that may result in fire and heavy smoke
development. In liquid or steam form, the electrolyte used is highly flammable.
To prevent this hazard, please observe the following:
• Never force open the energy storage system.
• Do not open, dismantle, pierce, or drill into the energy storage system.
• D onotexposetheenergystoragesystemtotemperaturesexceeding60 °C.
• Never set the energy storage system into a fire or directly expose it to flames.
• Do not place the energy storage system onto a source of fire or heat (heater, oven, fireplace,
etc.).
• Do not install or operate the energy storage system in proximity to highly flammable materials.
• Do not expose the energy storage system to direct sunlight.
• Do not allow the energy storage system to come into contact with conductive items (wires, ca-
bles, pieces of metal, etc.) that are not intended for installation of the energy storage system
in order to prevent short-circuiting.
2.2.2 Hazard of Escaped Electrolyte
The electrolyte used is harmful to health if it comes into contact with skin, since it is capable of
causing severe acid burns and serious eye damage. It can cause cancer and allergic skin reactions.
It is toxic to the environment, particularly aquatic organisms, and has a long-term damaging effect
upon it. Please contact your sales representative or installation technician immediately if you detect
escaping electrolyte. Do not attempt to remove it yourself.
To prevent this hazard, please observe the following:
• Never force open the energy storage system.
• Avoid contact with escaped electrolyte at all costs.
• Also avoid the area, if possible.
• Immediately provide first aid if you or another person come in contact with escaped
electrolyte. [2.3 Handling Emergencies; S.26]
• If you allow the electrolyte to come into contact with your skin or eyes, or if you ingest it, contact
first-aid responders immediately. In the event of escaped electrolyte, contact your sales represen-
tative or installation technician.
