From now on Schäfter+Kirchhoff ships all parts with a new type of protection cap for the fiber receptacle type
FC. This applies for all fiber collimators with a receptacle for fiber connectors of type FC of series
• 60FC
• 60FC-SF
• 60FC-T
• 60FC-L
• 60FC-Q
And all fiber couplers of series
• 60SMS
• 60FC-A19.5

Motivation

The previous protection cap was made from polymer. In some cases we observed some residue (splints) of the
polymer after removing the cap. Additionally, the small pin screw holding the connector ferrule in place could
not be secured as long as there was no fiber attached (e.g. during shipping).
The new cap is made from metal.
It now allows for additionally securing this small pin screw.

Design of the new Protection Cap

The new protection cap for the receptacle is two-parted: It consists of a threaded cap and a Ø 2.5 mm plug.
