2.1 Application of the S1720 on an Enterprise Campus
Network
The S1720 is deployed at the access layer of a campus network to provide high performance,
multi-service, and highly reliable enterprise network.
On the enterprise or campus network as shown in the figure, the S1720s connect to terminals by
using 100M electrical interfaces, and connect to aggregation switches by using GE optical or
electrical interfaces. The aggregation switches connect to the backbone network by bundling
GE interfaces or using 10G interfaces. The network provides 10 Gbit/s rate for the backbone
layer and 100 Mbit/s access rate for terminals, meeting requirements for high bandwidth and
multi-service.
