Explanation of Controls
• Scan for Cable Connected AlphaSmart: This button initi-
ates a search for ADB connected AlphaSmarts.
• Send Text To AlphaSmart: This button initiates the send-
ing of data to the AlphaSmart using either ADB or IrDA.
• Fetch File To Clipboard: This button initiates the fetching
of data to go from an AlphaSmart to a Mac using either
ADB or IrDA.
• AlphaSmart file #: This pop-up menu allows the user to
change the current file on the AlphaSmart.
Sending text to an AlphaSmart using IR Transfer
1. Copy the text into the Clipboard. To do this, open your
file or text you wish to send, select it with the mouse, and
select Copy from the Edit menu.
2. Switch back to the Get Utility and you should see the text
you copied displayed in the " Contents of Clipboard "
window.
3. Now you need to have the AlphaSmart communicate with
the Mac. Point the AlphaSmart at the IR pod for Mac and
press the Send key on the AlphaSmart. The screen on the
AlphaSmart should display the message "Connecting to
computer (wireless mode). Press esc to exit. Sending File x".
4. You should see the picture in the program's window
change to a picture that shows how your AlphaSmart is
"attached" (Figure 16).
5. Using the pop-up menu, select the file on the AlphaSmart
where you want to send the text.
6. Press the Send Text To AlphaSmart button to send the
text from the Mac to the AlphaSmart. The Clipboard text
is sent to the current file on the AlphaSmart.
7. You may now disconnect your AlphaSmart either by press-
ing the esc key on the AlphaSmart or by simply taking it
away from the Mac.

To download to other AlphaSmarts, it is not necessary to
quit Get Utility and rerun it, just return to Step 4.
If you want to Fetch text from the AlphaSmart to send to a
Mac, just select the file using the pop-up menu and then
press the "Fetch To Clipboard" button on the program's
window.
For Macs that have a built-in IrDA transceiver, make sure
that the infrared control panel has been set to IrDA.
