Initial Switch Setup

Pre-requisites

To get your Switch set up and ready for management, you need to:
1 Connect your workstation to the console port.
2 Login as a default user.
3 Enter the IP information via the command line interface. For more
information about IP addressing see

page 42
Once your Switch's initial set up is complete you can then proceed with
managing your Switch as follows:
1 Decide which method of management you wish to use.
2 Set up the chosen management method.
3 Log in as a default user — you need to log in as a default user if you
intend to manage the Switch or to change the default passwords.
For detailed information about the specific web interface operations and
command line interface commands, refer to the "SuperStack 3 Switch
Management Interface Reference Guide" on the CD-ROM that is supplied
with the Switch.
For information about solving problems when managing the Switch, refer
to the Problem Solving section in the "SuperStack 3 Switch Management
Interface Reference Guide" on the CD-ROM that is supplied with the
Switch.
To begin the initial setup of your Switch, you must first make a
connection to the console port. You can then enter IP information using
the command line interface (CLI).
A workstation with terminal emulation software, such as Microsoft
Hyperterminal installed to connect to the console port of the Switch
directly, or through a modem.
A cable (you can find pin-out diagrams for both cables in
